It's that time of year again - oil tank is empty and it's getting cold and wintery outside :(.

I came accross the website above earlier and was going to do a ring round tomorrow. I had been told by a friend that prices were on the way down and to hang tough another little while. Anyone any info?? Thanks!

Here is an extract from the National Consumer Agency's Home Heating Oil Survey dated September 19th, 2011. The cost of home heating oil in Ennis was very high compared to other places, so shop around before ordering.

"Shop around - home heating oil survey shows savings can be made"

    19 September 2011

Our latest pricing survey looked at prices charged by 170 suppliers across 24 areas for the supply and delivery of 1,000 litres of home heating oil.
    The survey found that:
The national average price of 1,000 litres of home heating oil was €818
The highest price recorded was €850 in Ennis, Co Clare while the cheapest price was in Dundalk, Co Louth at €770
The findings show that there is a sizable range of prices within local areas:
10 of the 24 areas had price variations of €30 or more
The Co Louth - Dundalk area recorded the highest price variation of €70
11 out of the 24 areas had price variations of €20 or less
Galway County - East, Galway County - North, and County Kerry - Tralee /Killarney and County Meath - Navan had the smallest price variation of €10
As we head into the colder months you may now be thinking about buying home heating oil.
The National Consumer Agency found that it was quick and easy to get a quote by phone from almost all of the firms surveyed, which means that it should only take you a few minutes to get two or three quotes in your local area and the results show that shopping around can really make a difference to your pocket.
Plus, it might be possible to make even further savings through haggling and negotiating with your supplier.
You can also save on your heating bills by reducing energy consumption. Small steps such as turning down your thermostat one degree can really make a difference. Read our tips and advice on how to become more energy efficient.
