€400- Desktop for Minecraft

Me and the young lad (10) are hoping to build this together. I'm hoping he can assemble it himself.

1. What is your budget? €400-
2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Minecraft. Has to be able to run Tekkit, Feed the beast etc. Other PC gaming (Skyrim etc) would be nice. Watching movies and surfing also.
3. Do you need a copy of Windows? No
4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? DVD Burner.
5. Do you need a monitor? No
5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? 1920 x 1080, 1080p, 60hz, 32 bit colour.
6. Do you need any of these peripherals? Keyboard, Mouse.
7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes
8. How can you pay? Bank Transfer, Credit Card, Laser, PayPal
9. When are you purchasing? June/July
10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Co. Galway

If you don't need the 1TB of storage, an SSD would make the whole machine a lot snappier. Wouldn't really help any in-game, but the machine as a whole would be much quicker doing pretty much everything.

If you got a motherboard, usually one or two come with that.

Build was a big success. Big thanks to all who helped.

Built it yesterday evening. Front panel wiring was tough and we nearly had a meltdown trying to figure out how to case the PCI panels off the case (just break them off ...easy). Organizing your wires is important. The way the HDD is attached isn’t ideal.

Very happy all in all.

Still a bit of flickering with the Radeon HD 7700 on Windows 7 64 bit via HDMI. Not sure which driver is best.

The young lad tested Minecraft last night at 11PM by blowing up loads of sh11t. He couldn't believe there was zero lad. Steve is moving so fast he can't keep up.

Here are a few shots of the kids putting it together....with a little help from Dad.

Really cool!

Flickering can be caused by ouputting too high a signal over a VGA cable. VGA can only support about 1440 * 900 max I would say. Are you sure you are connected via HDMI? Latest drivers?

Deffo HDMI with March 2013 drivers. 1980x1020 1080p @ 60htz Samsung 32 inch.

How bad is this flickering? Can you describe the flickering? Any chance you could test the graphics card with another TV? Or maybe the cable is damaged?

Very good today. It may have just been the website I was looking at at the time.

Young lad playing Minecraft Tekkit mod pack now. Wouldn't even load on the old box. Fast load and super performance.

Will be able to get him to do anything now for in exchange for an hour on the new pc. Muhahahaha.
