    Where to start.

    When I reflect at the end of every year I look back and think that I could've done better, however I always post times that I thought I'd never get to 12 months previously.

    I guess when you're in a good Club environment surrounded by guys posting times that you'll never get near it keeps you hungry, driven and doesn't allow you get too content. It also carries you along to be the best you can be. You feed off their knowledge, motivation and achievements. I wouldn't be at this craic if I had to go out and do it alone.

    I think putting goals out there helps me stick to them so here goes. These times do seem alien to me now, but goals are meant to be stretching. Shoot for the stars and all that, these are very lofty relative to where I think I'm at but I don't intend doing anything above 5000m this year so perhaps with a middle distance (introducing speed, strength, flexibility, drill work etc.) rather than a tick the box in terms of mileage approach might see me get to a...

    2:04 800m
    Low 9's 3000m
    Sub 4:15 1500m
    Sub 16 5000m
    I'd also love to learn to hurdle reasonably well, as much as a late starter can.

    Good to see more and more people with ambitions at the shorter end of the scale here in this thread. I think there's enough interest about here in those events to have a 400/800/1500/3000/5000 numbers thread similar to 'ten round numbers', with times getting IAAF scores and a tot at the end to see who scored best, it would keep people interested in doing well.

    I guess the target for everyone and the standard of 'real' athletes for me is sub 55/2/4/9/15 respectively in each of those events.

    While its being mentioned, I'd definitely post in a 100m - 5000m table of round numbers.

    Most people's time goals for next year begin with 5k, nothing shorter.

    I'm not going to harp on about giving an 800m a go as its not for everyone but I do think the 3000m is worth a look.

    If you can't quite run a sub 20 5k, maybe you could do a sub 12 3k. 3 x 4 minute kilometres back to back, definitely achievable. Also might encourage people onto the track as you won't find a road 3k unless you go to Armagh in February for their open 3k road race!

    A sub 10 3k is a very respectable target to shoot for and its a great round number. The 3k is one of my favourite distances. I'd keep it in mind in the new year, bit faster than 5k pace thats all. Don't mean to sound too preachy but the 3k is a nice one!

    The image won't open but at a guess, on what you've highlighted, is it of something that start with an S and finish with I'm never doing that ****ing thing again? I wouldn't have enough balls and everything else that's required to run the Steeple, way beyond me.

    Hmmm, I still have a 26.2 mile thing next Sunday but as for 2015

    10k - 36.40 (37.07)
    Half - 1.20.xx (1.22.32)
    Marathon - 2.59.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    I'm always fascinated at the beginning of the year to see if I can improve. Will hit the 50 age bracket next year and have been running now about 7 years. I'm confident I can still improve once I work at it. Just can't get lazy now.

    3k, 5k, 4mile, 5mile, 10k and HM.
    Try my hand at the track, XC and a mountain race.
    Oh and eat a proper "surf & turf"
    And I might give that beer mile a crack (I once drank a pint in 4 sec)

    I'm new! Have been running on and off for a couple of years but started doing a few races this year and have caught the bug properly now.

    Goals:
    1. Sub 27 min 5k
    2. Sub 60 min 10k
    3. Doing ballycotton for the first time, no idea what to expect! I'm hoping for under 1hr 45
    4. I'd like to run the Cork City half marathon, depending on how ballycotton goes
    5. Improve my stretching, I don't bother with it half the time!

    Since I've been calling myself a 1500m runner for almost a year now, I guess one of my main aims for next year should be to run my first actual 1500m race:P.

    When I started back running a few months back ago after an extended summer break, my aim was to be in better shape going in to the track season in 2015 than I was in 2014. I'm well on track for this so will need to keep patient and not try to push for a quicker improvement that could lead to injury.

    Of course its all about the times, so I'll hold myself to account for this time next year.

    400m - sub 60 (only if the Graded Meet timetable suits)
    800m - 2.03 or under
    1500m - sub 4.05
    Mile - sub 4.30
    3000m - Sub 9 (Would like this most of all)
    Steeplechase - Compete :D (this one's for you ecolii)
    5000m - Sub 16
    5 mile - Sub 26.30
    10k - Sub 33.30
    10 mile - Sub 56
    XC - Top 40 in the National Novice

    10km - Sub 42:00
    HM - Sub 1:35
    Marathon - Sub 3:40

    Should all be very doable, I think (current PBs are 42:44, 1:38:28, and 3:48:08).

    5m: 31:59, 36.35 current

    10k: 39:59, 41.57 current

    10m: 67:59, 71.47 current

    HM: 1:29:59, 1:37:40 current

    Marathon: 3:29:59, N/A

    1,800 miles for the year

    Race more and do a minimum of 10 park runs. Read more on racing strategies....I have been too comfortable very quickly after my last few races. Need to find out how to access the fuel reserve when the tank is apparently empty.

    Main Targets:

    London Marathon

    Summit Snowdon (Wales)

    New York or Chicago Marathon (not sure which).


    Other Targets:

    5K = 19.29
    4M = 25.59
    5M = 33.59
    10K = 42.59
    10M = 1.11.59
    Half = 1.32.59
    Full = 3.19.59

    Some of these targets are a little easier than others (5m, 10k & 10m) are probably one's that i could hit right now, but haven't ran these distance's in 18 months or so. When i can achieve these times, i'll reassess the goals.

    Usually at this time of year, i'd have an idea of times & a rough schedule of where to hit these, but i'm putting no concrete goals in place for 2015.

    This year the goal was to hit Sub 2:45 for the marathon so maybe that, but after taking a few months off now & not really missing it, i can't motivate myself to think about any big goal for 2015.
    i just want to get back to running again in 2015 & more importantly enjoy it, it was starting to be a chore.
    i'd like to do some mountain running, maybe an adventure race.

    Here we go:

    - Connemara Marathon in 3:05 (currently 3:14:16)
    - Under 3 Marathon (currently 3:14:16), maybe Cork
    - Half Marathon under 1:25 (currently 1:27:08)
    - 10k under 38 (currently 38:10)
    - 5k under 18 (currently 17:59)
    - finish and enjoy first 1.5 Ultra, maybe Achill
    - pure bliss early runs on holidays, maybe Sicily
    - and of course, staying injury free!!

    2014 had been a sh1t year running wise for me, the two things I did consistently was run and get injured! I only ran one race a 5k (19:xx)
    The main goal for 2015 is stay injury free, I also want to break 39 mins for the 10k. I'm currently just coming back off 3 months of low mileage/easy running.

    1/2mar 1.43.00 (have not raced one before)
    Mar 3.50 Belfast '15 and faster in DCM '15 (Belfast '14 4.11 min)

    Drop the next 10kg........... wont look at a scales for 2 weeks after this christmas!!!!!!!!

    BARRY'S, in order of preference;

    Running nearly 2 years injury free and if I can train sensibly I can stay that way, if I achieve this I may achieve the following

    84:XX HM(Charlieville)

    17:5X 5k

    37:XX 10k

    64:XX 10m

    Significant PB's at 4m/5m.......probably Tinryland/Terenure

    Take part and compete in the county novice XC (usually first week in October)

    Last but not least race on the track. Probably only get one shot at this(1m, Greystones) due to where I'm based.

    1) Main goal Rotterdam - ideally Sub 3, see how training goes over next few months
    2) Half Sub 80 ( currently 81:40)
    3) 10k Sub 36 ( currently 36:38)
    4) 10 mile - haven't done many ,currently 63:43. Hopefully get close to 60, maybe next year for this one.
    5) Do more Cross Country
    6) Stay relatively injury free , actually this should be number 1.

    Whats that saying... "You might as well aim for the moon, even if you miss you'll land among the stars!" ( Or most likely, suffer trying at mile 20!)

    Goals for 2015;

    1. Stay injury free
    2. Sub 19 5K
    3. Sub 39 10k
    4. Sub 1.26 1/2
    5. 2.59.59 (A goal)
    6. Run more mountains/trails
    7. Remember to be grateful that I am lucky enough to be able to enjoy attempting the above
