    I have

well at least for the next 3-5 years. Other things to focus on, getting fit, well, university etc

I decided 2 months ago that I wasn't getting much out of it, like how i used to as a kid being able to pour unthinkable hours into the GTA'S, FF'S and MGS'S of yore.......it just got frankly boring and samey

so i went into smyths traded in my collection, except a few choice games, i'll probbaly want to show to grandkids and such and played one last FINAL game that I really foundly remembered:

    Final Fantasy 10 on the PS2, 2001.

I complete it this morning, and I got to tell you people, its pure art!:D

After 50 hours, i sat back and thought well I haven't played anything (as a whole) as emotionally charged in 10 years

this is no rose tinted glasses, storytelling and the medium of gaming has stagnated and probably moved backwards(yes bioshock is dung).

Mods don't move, i put it in after hours to get a wider section of the boards .ie users population.

Gave them up when my xbox died. But theres a new gta out so might have to buy a new one.

Not once. Especially with the new GTA on the way.

Another chance for mindless violence and immature humour.
It's good for the soul. Kind of. . .

Hell no, been playing games for nearly 25 years now, since the atari 2600 days, long as theres quality games being made I'll be playing them.

    *sits and waits for Skyrim*

No way. Although as I get older the type of game I play is changing.

after finishing Giana Sisters on my C64, I decided to pack it in. Graphics & plots weren't gonna get much better, anyway. :p

Congrats on your reason for not moving it being one of the reasons for moving it given in the charter :D

Also online multiplayer has given certain genres a lot more appeal in my eyes, they say games have gotten easier but multiplayer is the most challenging aspect of any game.

Not really into video games, don't have the time. But wouldn't GTA5 on the xbox Kinect be cool...

Give it six months and you'll be back. They all come back in the end.

No it's nothing but rose tinted glasses. Gaming hasn't got worse, stagnated or any of that nonsense.
    You just got old.

So yeah, cleanse your palate by taking a break, when you eventually come back you'll probably appreciate the games you'll play a lot more.
Or you'll still think as you do now, so you can go onto the games subforum where complaining that games now can't live up to your embellished memories is practically mandatory.

I've taken breaks, during which I haven't played anything for a couple of months at a time. (DS doesn't count, right?)

But with so many delicious new PC games on the horizon; Diablo III, The Old Republic, etc, I'm building myself a new monster machine in preparation for when I voluntarily turn into a social hermit.

Yes I gave up video games a few years ago. Don't play them on my pc any more but do play games the odd time on my DS but they are educational games though!

    I'm sorry I don't understand the question.

    Quit video games

  • Registered Users Posts: 855 ✭✭✭joshrogan

I'd rather play games than look at the X factor or other non engaging entertainment mediums.

i usually play games for the story, music, art and not the multiplayer............. So many games are moving away from split screen multiplayer in the same room, which is just simply irreplacable in terms of sheer fun.

I remember 8 of us used to go over to our friends houses to play HALO with 2 xboxes and 2 television in separate rooms, one team in each room and the shouts we'd hear from one room as a grenade landed beside a player, and we'd know who it was :D

Never. Playing 15 years now, no sign of slowing. Have had a few long stretches without playing (most recently 6 months), but just finished batman, got sonic generations last night, getting 3DS for xmas. Couldn't imagine ever quitting.

I do like online a lot but there is no debating the joy of splitscreen multiplayer the glory days before booze of staying over at my buddies playing mariokart, goldeneye and perfect dark. Me and a friend recently played the spec ops missions on MW2 had a great laugh so we decided to go out and get another game and continue the fun (great thing about being an adult, just being able to go out and buy a game whenever you want) but we couldn't find anything :( Wii sports is only good for so long. Still there is always Pro!

Skyrim, Arkham City, a new SSX. It would be the work of a madman to stop playing games now. A MADMAN. I've got a PS3 and an Xbox, and when I put the baby to bed, then I can dispense a brand of street justice that not only relaxes me, but also would get me a ten year sentence coupled with some strong remarks from the bench in real life.

Didnt know Smyths still accepted trade-in on PS2 games

But anyways op, you got ripped off :pac: if you wanna give up playing video games thats cool :) but you shouldn't of traded-in. Places would gladly give you 1 euro then resell the game on for 29.99.
