    I'd be interested to hear too if you know. I've been too busy to watch the oireachtas report in full.

    I'm a SF voter, but I'm very much against the hunting of animals. I think they should be banned altogether as a sport. I've no qualms with a farmer trying to protect his lifestock against foxes and such - but shooting animals as a sport is just wrong. I wish all parties took a more pro-animal rights stance - and it's a shame that party politics has yet again come into play. That's why politics in this country needs a huge reform.

    The official report shows that all SF deptuties voted Níl, ie opposed the Bill FYI!

    sinn fein passed a motion at this yrs ard eis supporting hunting and coursing and the contribution they make socially and economicly to rural communities.
    martin ferris( of army council fame) was a major push behind it. like it or not republicans/socialists/lefties can enjoy hunting just as much as horay henrys from d4.
    hunting hounds is hugely popular along the border in counties like monaghan and fermanagh. and im not talking mounted hunts with red jackets, just foot packs irish men doing what their fathers and great fathers did before them.

    i've hunted my self with lads along the border. all republican/nationalist backrounds. they had better hunting during the troubles cos all the roads were blown up and they didnt have to woory bout hounds getting knocked down crossing roads by cars;)

    No-one in D4 hunts. The 'class' element is irrelevant. This is being banned because its cruel, not because of the background of blood sports enthusiasts.

    Explain to me the economic value of bloodsports?

    i dont feel they need to kill. some of the best days hunting i've had the fox got away.

    isnt johnnny roanan of nama fame a ward union rider? the greens really pushed this whole upper class colonial spin every chance they got. and their is a (false) perception out their that only right wing landed gentry hunt and its a sport for snobs.
    all the men i hunt with hunt on foot,are all working class, not a snob in sight.

    as for econmaic value-horses and hounds need food,vets, kennell men yard men etc..........b and b,pubs all do trade cos of hunting and coursing etc...

    i was at a meet in limerick last yr. quite village. at half ten that morning the pub was packed, after the hunt the pub was packed again. that pub owner probably did a weeks trade in one day. does he want to see hunting banned?

    Look, most hunter's couldn't give a toss about the economic benefits. They just want a day out in the fresh air with their guns. I get it. I understand the thrill that they might get from chasing down animals.

    But for me personally, I think shooting animals for sport is very cruel. Animals have feelings just like human beings. When you kill an animal, you could leave it's children without parents, left to starve. Hunters don't think of the consequences. They don't think of animal's lives as significant. The sport of hunting sickens me.

    how would you feel if someone terrorised your dog for no other reason than their own gratification?
    would you be of the view because that person is are of a higher consciousness, what your dogs feels is irrevelant?

    I was at the funeral of a chap who was murdered.

    Before the funeral the pub was packed. After it it was packed.

    Does he want to see murder banned?

    no the leg just passed wont effect that. but we see the banning of the ward as the thin end of a wedge against all forms of hunting. thats why i personally fought against it and support the ward. the leg' wont effect most hunters but thats not the point, its united we stand........

    So your example is that people spent money in a different pub.

    Lots of things with economic benifits are banned. See heroin for an example.

    well ten people will loose their jobs if the ward shuts down. people earn money by providing services to hunts and hunters eg feed livery vets etc....
    my own local vet was at the dail to support the ward with rise.

    thats why we have seasons, so all young and off spring can be reared. hunters do more for the conservation of habitat and animals then most greenie types.

    Its not actually.

    You object to dog fighting and admit the economic arguements are moot.

    I object to all dog hunts and to me the economic arguements are moot.

    The only difference is what we define as cruel.
