the stupidest assumption i've heard about gaming is that girls can't play games!!

Who said this? I've heard 'girls don't play games' but not 'can't'. Cept maybe from girls themselves who still view it as something only for young boys.

People who think, because they are good at FPS ....would be well suited in an army or War.

Well, why would armies use games to teach with and learn from? Would give you a good start at least.

while i believe that mojority of people dont play video game (due to they tend to suck at it :P), people love to tag the gamers with alot of non-sense assumptions, eg loser, bad socialising etc. and it is so obvious that if the guy spends alot of time socialising with people and play games at home, people wouldnt even know he is a gamer!

there are loser/bad or good socialising/smart/stupid people in gamers/non-gamers, but at some point i do see those insane mad online game/console players really need to get a life, it is those gamers who lose their balance in life bring us general gamers(read: video game lover) a bad name :(

play game, have a great real life too!

    1. Games make you violent.
Yeah right, I played mortal kombat and quake when I was 8, still not killing anyone.
Look at real sports, they get fights all the time and require police to break up.
Only a mentally unstable will become violent after playing games. But that's not a reason to take them away for normal people.

    2. Games are addictive.
Again total bull****. If you are addicted to games, there's something wrong with you, because unlike heavy drugs, games don't cause physical addiction.

    3. Consoles are more powerful than PCs.
If you think so, you don't deserve to play games.

Oh and, for girl gamers, do NOT go shouting that you're a girl gamer. No one cares, really. You will only look like a fool.

    Umm, Games ARE addictive.

They're addictive only if you're weak minded. Mental addiction can be easily suppressed.

...that a 34 year old who still loves playing Pokemon games is some kinda wierdo....

The cartoon is for kids, the game is one of the most strategic ever invented, know the difference!

Agreed, Pokemon was one of the most addictive games I've played.

Videogames are addictive the same way they cause violence.

If you get addicted to a videogame, you have slight problems with your mind.

    Anything? No. Only mental addictions.

Even if there is something wrong with the person...it doesn't mean games aren't addicting. It also doesn't mean that its only the "weak-minded" that get addicted.
Games are known for triggering endorphin release...and those 'natural chemicals' can actually cause an addiction....

I had someone tell me that when they saw me play Fallout, made me want to hurt them for their ignorance.

    ^^ this is rubbish.

    Games are addictive.

Just because YOU don't KILL people, does not negate that video games can make you violent, or more violent. You may not kill or beat anyone. By your logic, only people who kill are violent...?

This is really naive and laughable.

It wasn't computer games that made him do that, he was just insane altogether.

Has anyone seen the episode of Penn and Teller: Bullsh*t where they talk about video games, particularly about violence in video games and if it can really affect people. Brilliant episode, well worth a watch

Also, someone made a good point on the GTA board here about how they'd love animals in the next GTA, but animal groups would probably go nuts about it. It's true, they probably would. In a game where you can slaughter people in many different and violent ways, they'd be more upset about running over a dog. Idiotic

I have to say that i'd probably try harder to avoid hitting a dog then a person in GTAV :o

Computer games don't affect kids, I mean if Pac Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music - Marcus Brigstocke

Games are addictive. I've spent many a day getting up early and going to bed late to play a game. After so many days I just suddenly snap and no longer want to see it for 6 months. It's only a problem when you forget to eat and think you can fly etc., but if you're that kind of person with a highly addictive nature, you should be more careful.

As for violence, for the most extent that's rubbish. I think most if not all of the GTAs were 18s, so you can't blame the game for kids turning out violent when they weren't supposed to be playing it anyway. I think some people could be influenced by violent games, but for the most part people can see the difference between reality and fiction, so parents should be aware if their kids are easily influenced.

Another stupid assumption ive heard is when we were watching The Weakest Link, I was able to answer a question because of something I heard in Metal Gear Solid. My father asked me how I knew so I told him. He said "Sure how can you learn stuff from games, all it is is shooting aliens and stuff

Not enough evidence yet, but there will be ;)

That violent video games make kids violent. With good parenting this shouldn't be the case.
I have been playing violent games since I was around 8(goldeneye and grand theft auto were a couple of the first) and have never even been a fight in my 13 years since

And the constant "PS3 is more powerful than PC just does my head in"
