Norton anti virus - European price 45% higher

I was about to install Norton anti-virus and noticed that Symantec are using the EU VAT laws as an excuse to shove the net price up something massive.

The US price is $49.95 so if you add VAT at 21% for Ireland this should turn out to be priced at just under $61 which equals €50.50 at today's exchange rate.

However if you go onto the Symantec Euro site the same product is sold at €72.50 - a mark up of about 45%.

Of course you can't buy it on the US site with an Irish credit card anymore.

Anybody know a way around this? I'd prefer to stick with something like Norton but resent paying them a net $22 extra just 'cos I'm in Europe.

Are other software vendors using the VAT rules to jack up their net prices to EU customers this much?
