While it is surprising that two 18 year olds are there at 4am, please don't blame the victims for being beaten up.

Maybe it would be worth scanning Porterstown Park with the heat camera after dark now and then also.

The "WTF were they doing there at 4am!" sounded like you believe that they should not be there at that hour and as such any consequences should not have been unexpected.
If I am way off the mark I'll happily delete my posts.

You're gonna call it victim blaming, but I don't care. Anyone who says it didn't cross their mind, is lying. If I decide to play British bulldog with the traffic on the N3, the likely outcome is clear. No kid of mine living under my roof is going to be in Porterstown Park at 4am, end of. So yeah, blame the parents/guardians a bit too.

Do 18 year old adults need to tell their parents where they are at all times? I was living over 100 miles away from home, paying my own rent, earning and studying and often out at 4am after nights out socialising for well over a year at that age. My parents probably only heard from me once a fortnight in that pre-mobile phone era.

Granted, it crossed my mind as to what someone of any age would be doing at that hour in a relatively remote public park, especially as all nightlife is currently shut down, but I still wouldn't apportion blame on any victim just because they were unfortunately in the wrong place at the wrong time. You're being too judgemental.

    No, I'm not.

Admittedly there are more kids stuck under the parents' roof for longer in these times than in yours and mine, but irrespective, my roof, my rules.

And I doubt that anyone independent enough to be living out on their own at 18 would be conversely stupid enough to be in a lonely dark park at 4am for any reason.

Has anti social behavior in Dublin 15 affected you?.......................16 years ago 2 scumbags were found dead from a drug overdose across the road from me in Ferndale Huntstown,Myself and my wife were fortunate to miss a shooting by about 40 mins walking home from the pub at 1 in the morning, the scumbags chased their victim down letting off 6 round whilst catching up with him running down the road,......this was the straw that broke the camels back and we made a decision to emigrate to Perth Australia with 3 kids 5,8 & 9, We left Ireland with a Heavy heart as both my wife's mum and brother and my brothers sister were left behind, It was the best decision i ever made, Over here the Crime is still there but nowhere near the same scale as blanch, we have guaranteed sunshine best part of the year and Work is everywhere if you want it, My daughter has just finished Uni and is now a nurse, My lad will be a teacher soon and my 2nd lad has started as an Apprentice Mechanic, I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank All the scumbags in D15 for making me leave and chase that dream of a better life, I was 40 when i emigrated......Maybe its not to late for you ;)

Big move, Glad it worked out for you. I am 40 too and considering a move to Asia. I have no kids, but have family and my dogs lol. That's keeping me back. I nearly got knocked down by a scrambler again last night. Crossing the road to buy milk. Fecker on main road pulling wheelies and no lights.

So many Opportunities out there mate, Don't think i would have done it but for the few incidents that happened, we had been threatening to move down country to give the kids a better chance away from the drug scene, we applied for a visa thinking we would not get it, and hey we haven't looked back since, We have been to Bali 3 or 4 times now and freiends have told us ythailand and vietnam are very liveable, As i said its never too late ;)

I have been to Thailand 6 times and also Vietnam. Can live on small money. But i was looking at Philippines. I have friends there and easy to find work. Obviously salary not great but cost of living is low, plus the nice weather.
It is a huge decision to make though.

Glad it worked out. Dublin is all about the area you live in !! I’m very fortunate to be in a nice part of the city. I lived in Asia for 5 years and although there are lower crimes rates they do have other problems. Kids never got out to play with other children as there is a kidnap threat to young children across the region, that really put me off. I would deal with scumbaggery any day over that. I also saw a rise in drug use to in Asia and bullying problems in schools plus anti Western attitudes developing. There is no prefect place to live anymore possibly Japan or Scandinavian countries who knows !!

I live in a rough part(inside the K) but feel relatively safe, In Asia the only problem i ever encountered was with tourists, mainly brits. Just minding my own business and they attacked me, drunk thinking they owned the place, my crime was wearing a Celtic T-Shirt. It didn't end well for them though, Local Thai people helped me.

While it's nice to see a past D15 resident dropping by, life in Australia or Asia is very much off-topic for this thread and even the forum. Time to get back to the neighbourhood watch topic, thanks.

Only heard today about this awful attack in Ongar last week. It's horrific and frightening! I hope Gardaí bring this to resolution quickly for all residents sakes!

If it isn't mentioned anywhere else but 'Dublin Live', I shouldn't take too much notice.

Not too familiar with Dublin live. Is it known for making stories up? I am surprised no other media outlets are reporting it considering the viciousness of what happened.

It could be a shouting match over the garden fence and Dublin live would report it as a bloodbath.

You mean the viciousness of what *Dublin Live says* happened.

Its an appalling website, full of absolute nonsense. Pay it no heed.

Dublinlive is the worst. You might as get your news from Gemma O'Doherty's blog.
And it's riddled with the dodgiest of ads (security-wise), enough that my browser security has an absolute fit if I try to follow a link to it.

Police chase in Ongar tonight. A car then crashed in to the railings outside the crèche mother hubbards. Lots of Garda were out with torches, they’d one person from the car sitting on the road and were scouring the bushes with torches. It’s gone quiet now

We heard that last night alright, plenty of sirens going off and Garda cars speeding by us around 11pm.

Your question: has anti social behavior in Dublin 15 affected you?

Your own answer- two people you barely knew died of an overdose in a house across the way. You missed, by a pretty damn considerable time gap, a gangland shooting (Mark Glennon murder I take it by your description of the time of day and year).

There's people on farms on Achill who have had closer scrapes than this :pac: Internet commenters love a bit of hyperbole.
