The lady who used to be the manager was in Costa on Cruises St when it opened but haven't seen her in a while, of the 2 East European girls who worked with her (before the most recent owners took it over) one open her own place called Cafe Ola on Foxes Bow and the other is in Butlers Cafe in the Crescent. Of the most recent staff, I honestly don't know, haven't seen them anywhere since.

A friend commented on the owners FB page of Tom and Jerrys. It's closing its doors on Monday so it seems

They couldn't agree a deal on a new lease with the landlord.

I liked it anyway. It was run mainly by 3 ladies, 1 English and 2 East European, but whoever owned it sold it on about 3 years ago and one by one those 3 moved on and the place went downhill (in my opinion) Scones and coffee had been good and they had a regular menu of sandwiches and toasties etc. and specials every day. The place was always busy and a lot of the customers were regulars, but I stopped going in as the food just wasn't up to scratch. It's a pity but I suppose there are so many options for sandwiches and coffee around town that it just got lost in mediocrity. I feel sorry for the staff and whoever invested the money into it.

As someone else said, it was a great place to people watch as well.

Sorry about that swiper I apologise I thought u calling me sad & not the other sad as in opposite to happy. Games was 1st thing that popped into my head. Should have said box sets & blue-Rays & you are right about that few places to buy them now.

Last day for HMV Crescent today. 10 items for 10 euro .... frenzy in there right now .....

Think it just sums up a big problem with the city. Tom & Jerry's has been in there 20 years, they completely refurbished the place twice and then get thrown out because rents become unrealistic

Fine Things (cafe & cake shop) in Arthurs Quay closing this week, heard someone taking it over but it will probably be closed for a couple of weeks.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but René Cusack's fish bar down by the Milk Market has closed. Sad to see it go. Was by far and away the best fish and chipper that I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing.

Rene Cusacks chip shop terrible location

  • Registered Users Posts: 925 ✭✭✭OfTheMarsWongs

That chipper/location has changed hands so many times. Rene's used to close early too, at 9 I think. Would have thought that was peak chip time.

Don't Rene's have something in the Urban Garden? Or at least used to?

I suppose it was handy for them. Right across from their shop in the Milk Market already and was fully kitted out as a chip shop in the first place.

Bank of Ireland in the Parkway are closing shortly. Everything moving to Castletroy. Seems ridiculous in my opinion.
