For me, themes that revolve around professional gambling (even though I've never gambled in my life).

It's the theme of "luck optimization" that appeals to me. Being so good at something that seemingly depends so highly on luck, that they can make make a living from it (where to 99% of those who indulge in it, it can only be a pass time).

    • Casino (DeNiro)
    • The Hustler (Newman)
    • Color of Money (Newman)
    • Hard Eight (Philip Baker Hall)
    • High Roller: Stu Ungar Story (dude from the Sopranos).

For whatever reason I can watch these on repeat and always find some other sub plot or sub theme, area of interest I missed initially.

In college I knew a dude who used to watch "The Big Lebowski", literally on repeat. It was obvious why; character identification. He was like the Big Lebowski's stunt double.

There’s a lighthearted movie with Richard Dreyfuss from 1989 called ‘let it ride’ that you may enjoy.

Jennifer Tilly is great in it too.

Not enough time in life to ever rewatch movies or reread books. So I do not have any movies I return to generally. But if I did it would probably be the straight to DVD/Youtube Movie "Ink" which is probably the best low budget movie I have ever enjoyed.

Don't think I have watched any of the gambling movies you list. But I have heard from a few sources the movie "Uncut Gems" is a must watch from the gambling genre.

    Could be.

    Though I checked the trailer.

The "comfort films" I mentioned explore the CHARACTER of such individuals that excel in "luck optimization".

I have little to no interest in actual gambling itself.

Characters like "Fast Eddie Felson", "Sam Ace Rothstein" (and his flaws), "Sydney", etc.

The lifestyle they live, the "hustle", more than gambling.

    But cheers for the suggestion.

Plus one for This is the End. Funniest film I have ever seen. Could watch it over and over. Actually I think I'll throw it on tonight. Not for the easily offended though.
