Delivery Drivers/ Company Jamming Ring doorbell

Is this company policy or are the drivers taking it upon themselves?

Most company do not get picked up on a perfectly functioning camera. There is one company that always triggers it.

How legal is it?

Also, it does not pick up the van parking on the public road. So they are jamming while not on the property.

I believe Ring doorbells can have their WiFi signal jammed.

A device in their pockets that can interferewith the wifi signal on a Ring doorbell within range. So there is no notification or video capture of the driver .

100% of one company deliveries are notified on my Ring. 100% of another company deliveries are not captured.

Blocking signals is illegal. But if you kick up a stink the drivers will just refuse to deliver to you.

Used to be available from China in the past anyway. They are illegal to use.

I'm sure it's technically possible, but to what end? It couldn't be sanctioned by the company iteself, so the the driver is taking it upon themselves to illegally block wireless signals so that they can lob your packages at the door? And putting their job on the line for the pleasure.

Is it always the same company? Does it seem to cut off at the same location? Does it happy with other people, or just the one company?

Set up an old phone on a mount to record the next time you're expecting a package. If you can show that your wifi is being interfered with, I'd be contacting the company.

Nothing worse than those gobsh1tes who think everyone on the bus wants to listen to their conversations or videos.

They aren't putting their jobs on the line. The courier companies lie to their customers and the person receiving the package isn't their customer.

All that will happen if you complain is that you will no longer get any deliveries from that company, the courier will continue to block signals at every other delivery they do.

I know that the courier companies don't care. They lie to the driver's who sign up to drive and they lie to the customers all the time. They will say that they will talk to the courier but never do, as they know that they won't easily get another sucker to do deliveries.

it seems like the kind of thing that probably isn't regulated so probably in a grey area of unregulated space but others seem pretty adamant that they are "illegal".

to those people, what is the legislation that governs wi-fi/signal jammers? is it somewhere in the wireless telegraphy acts or is there something else? i'm not doubting the assertion they're illegal, i am simply not aware of the law on this.

If you jam a signal it means that you are broadcasting a signal. To do so you must have a licence under the Wireless Telegraphy Act.

WiFi is in the unlicensed spectrum, so depending on how targeted they are they might be ok from that perspective. Though jamming a signal might be illegal for other reasons.

Yeah, when you are on someone else's property and you don't like being recorded, and indeed you interfere with their security cameras, people may be inclined to draw conclusions.

It is certainly an offence to interfere with a call to the emergency services. Some people will be using Wi-Fi to make those calls.

Ring cameras don't natively stream and save the output like an CCTV/NVR camera recording system would, they generally send push notifications to the cloud/app when an event occurs. Only if you were operating the Live View via the app or portal, would you see the session dropping. So looking for periods where the WiFi has dropped is not as easy as going back and reviewing the saved history as you would on a CCTV system.

whatever about ‘jamming’ wifi when nearby, the idea they are jamming it before they even arrive and park is crazy. You would have to ideally be between the doorbell and your wifi router to reliably jam wifi, unless using a expensive high powered unit. Which they would have little reason too.

It’s much more likely you have a setup problem on the alerts or your own intermittent wifi issues. I’m guessing it’s a battery powered unit, which are notoriously unreliable. Put in any powered one and buy 24hr recording and your problems will go away.

Honestly it sounds like a lot of effort on the courier/delivery mans part for little gain for them in the long run. At the end of the day, the basic question when you look at something like this is how does it benefit the person doing it? People don't do things for no benefit. So if you can't find one, it may be that there's no conspiracy but rather just wifi issues connecting (had that with a Ring doorbell before).
