Pistol Shooting Range?

I'm new here, and very green, but came across the forum and was surprised there is a firearms community on boards.

I went to a range on holiday before tried all sorts of weapons - pistols, revolvers, shotguns, rifles… Pistols I found most enjoyable.

Is there any place in Ireland where a beginner can come do some target practice with pistols? I would of course expect they will have me go through training but I don't want to own guns or ammo. Just pay to try the hobby out.

So not to go into too many complexities but you as a general rule cannot just rock up to a range, rent a pistol and go shooting, even supervised, in Ireland.

Some clubs, like Harbour House in Kildare run introductory days(which include shooting), but I'm not too familiar with them so I might ask @clivej to weigh in on them if he has a few free minutes.

I would recommend you enquire at ranges local to you to see what their arrangements might be regarding trying out shooting, list of ranges by county here:

I will say that finding somewhere that will allow you to try clay shooting and small caliber rifle shooting is going to be a lot more common than pistol shooting.

Don't think Harbour House Sports Club allow walk in handgun shooting, best ring them up first to confirm. Yes they have training days there for shotgun and rifle and again you would need to find out when these days are being held.

Ah gotcha, I must have misread it on the other thread but thought HH did pistol shooting as part of intro days.

So bearing the above in mind it may well not be possible to try pistol shooting in Ireland if you aren't a member of a range,
but still best to call some ranges, including HH, and ask.
Worst you will hear is no.

No HH won't allow walk in's to shoot pistol If you don't already own one. And then only with current insurance and a valid license. Small fee to pay for the day on a fantastic range.
