Fireflies on Slea Head, Dingle peninsula?

Could anyone tell me whether fireflies (not glow worms) were present on the Dingle peninsula around Slea Head in 1972?

Occasionally you'd get North American butterflies and birds blown to Ireland in a storm. Not sure if a firefly would survive such an ordeal.
