Hi All, I am looking at buying a 2015/2016 Ford transit custom, what are the like? Any version better than others, common problems etc

Those are the 2.2L. Injectors are main issue. The 2017 is the 2L and is a poor engine for constant repairs/replacements.

So the 2.2 are the best engine? Anything else to look out for other than injectors?

The 2.2 is the better engine of the two. After that, it’s all down to mileage and condition.

Hasn't the 2.2 got a fairly poor rep more so than the 2.0 litre. My friend had a fleet of 2.2 engines and couldn't wait to trade in for the 2.0 litre.

Would people recommend the 2.0 or 2.2 custom? 2015/2016

Like everything else out there, how well the vehicle has been looked after previously is important for it's future reliability. A family member purchased a 2020 Transit 2 litre diesel last year and it has been absolutely fine. From our research before putchase, these are what to be aware of:

1. Service on schedule using correct oil is essential, and especially for wet belt longevity. The correct oil is not cheap and needs nearly 10 litres for an oil change.

2. Ensure AdBlue has been correctly stored (not in high temps or direct sunlight) and doesn't have an excessively pungent smell. Otherwise ropey AdBlue can screw the system right up, and expensively.

3. There's a vaporiser (a small fuel injector) in the DPF which raises the temps during DPF regeneration. The vaporiser can clog which causes regens to fail and sets a fault code for the regen temps being too low. Sometimes the vaporiser can be cleaned or otherwise needs replacement.

The 2 litre is otherwise a good engine, but you will always hear of an issue with something that is a common seller like a Ford. Just about everything out there nowadays can have problems due to the complexity of them and what goes on under the hood. The Transit Connect 1.5 diesel is a case in point. There may be less things to go wrong on a 2.2 if it's a Euro5, but that doesn't guarantee it'll be 100% reliable either.
