The latest anti-Russian crap

On NBC nightly news, I know, a joke of a source, they have reported that those working at home as a result of COVID could now be the targets of Russian hackers.

No substance to the claim. No proof. No motive. Nothing, just that working from home means that your security is not as strict as in the workplace

Don't they understand what a VPN is?

And why would 10 people working remotely 6 months ago be ok but 100 now is a huge security risk to the spooky Russians?

Somebody should be keeping a close eye on those Eskimos, nevermind the russkies. The minute the eskimos train the polar bears to fly the worlds in trouble.

There are lots of Russian hackers and scammers its nothing against Russia to say that.

There are a lot of Nigerian scammers....

Russia is a HUGE country with a lot of organized crime and very little opportunity for even very educated people.

The Russian black market is a massive part of their GDP.

I mean normal good russian people get a lot of their medicines from the black market. If you have HIV or cancer you get your drugs off the black market. That business is ALL over the dark web. Its huge. And these gangs need techies to deal with it.

Its just a fact of life.

No, they don't. Which is what makes people more vulnerable. Your average user's technical skill doesn't extend beyond using Instagram and Snapchat. You ask most Americans what a VPN is and they will draw a blank.

Plenty of business that will only route their internal traffic over a VPN link so as to preserve bandwidth, meaning any users working outside the office are more vulnerable to the kind of malicious activity that businesses would try to protect with their office network infrastructure. You also have the problem that a lot of businesses weren't prepared for this kind of event and threw up VPNs in a hurry (or didn't setup anything at all) which is more likely to lead to poor configuration and vulnerabilities and could also mean their IDS system is useless to them if it wasn't configured correctly or host based.
