What would you like to see a team of journalists investigate in your area?

Hi,

We are looking to find some volunteers for a new journalism project called Note that we are working on at TheJournal.ie.

We want you to tell us about issues, local or national, that you would like to see investigated.

It could be why a controversial development near you got planning permission, how your local hospital does compared to others, if your county's roads are unusually dangerous, or some dubious decision a government department has made.

It can be something that affects you personally, or just some burning question that you've always wanted answered.

We want to help you understand how Ireland works, and why it sometimes doesn't work

We plan to create a platform to unearth those stories that always seem to slip between the cracks.

We're hoping to create a place where members of the public can get answers to their questions, and help support the journalism that will provide those answers.

You can find out a little more about the background to the project here https://newsinitiative.withgoogle.co.../note-round-5/.

At the moment, we are just getting started and looking for some people to work with us as we develop the project.

In a few months, we are hoping to go live with it and by then, we should be able to tell some of these stories.

What to expect for now:

- create an account and log-in, you can use your Google account.

- submit an idea for something you would like to see investigated.

- we will contact you for feedback.

- anything submitted at this stage will be treated in the strictest confidence and not published anywhere.

If you are interested in signing up, visit our page at: https://note-staging.journalmedia.ie/.

Thanks,

Note by TheJournal.ie

I would like to know why in Dublin on O'Connell St alone there are 4 illegal slot machine arcades as well as dozens more around the city and why the Gardai, politicians and civic officials have done nothing to close them. If you want a "money shot" for your article take a hidden camera into Dr Quirkey's on children's allowance day (or any dole day.) See also the original campaign run by the Evening Herald back in the 80s to have them banned.

Can you investigate why taxis think the drop off points outside hospitals are taxi ranks?

Maybe why some journalists call themselves investigative journalists despite being unable to track elephants in the snow

The HSE and why there's no accountability anywhere, especially in mental health services. Cork and Kerry for sure, emphasizing Tralee when investigating Kerry.

Any Irish 'Investigative Journalist' or, God help us Irish 'War Reporters couldn't find their arse if they put back their two hands.

Maybe when thejournal.ie stop reporting every Garda traffic stop as breaking news and learn to spell you will have some free time and resources for a project like this (which is actually a reasonable idea).

Put the horse before the cart though and fix your existing problems first.

No mental health services for Deaf ISL users in Ireland at all. Hearing people at least have access to those services nationwide.

How Mick Wallace was able to take money from his employees and not be charged with a criminal offence. What was the circumstances that he was not? Seems fishy.
And how does he get RE elected as a public representative. Surely that amount of people in one county be that stupid?
