I wonder if a search of the newspaper archives would uncover any local deaths. Unfortunately I don't have a sub, maybe someone else?

You don't need a sub, it is free in any public library in Ireland.

Thank you GRO for your stupid site.:mad::mad:

I don't know, Hermy. Have you tried contacting them directly?
    It's working for me.

It's letting me back in this morning.
I must have pressed the refresh button once too often and it locked me out.
Some of the images work better than others - particularly the shop fronts - while others just descend into an endless loop of clicks.
So I thought I'd just click refresh until the shop fronts appeared but that is not advisable.

    Hermy,
I haven't been asked to select those difficult images for yonks, usually get straight in after clicking the I'm not a Robot and inputting my initials.

It is annoying though that one is kicked out and have to log in again after a short period of inactivity.

    It's frustrating beyond belief.

If the thing worked it wouldn't be so bad but too often it doesn't.
Then there's the fact that, as you say, you get kicked out every so often.
I can't think of another website that's this awkward.
And because it's such an important and invaluable website I suppose the issue is magnified.
Why one can't just log in and stay logged in is beyond me.

RE: reCAPTCHA 'I'm not a robot'

    What browser are you using?

I find with some older Firefox versions it takes multiple attempts, and the images are very slow to load new images after being clicked.

With FF 57 just one attempt does the job.

    Same with Brave browser.

...the images are very slow to load new images after being clicked...
That issue is happening a lot at the minute.

I have just recently downloaded FF57 but it's made absolutely no difference.

Same here... I've been on it that many times they're probably thinking 'oh it's him back yet again, no point putting on the images' :pac:

I see the Family Search site is going to require log ins - I hope that they don't go to the GRO Capcha designers or I'll go insane.

At least you can generally stay logged in to Familysearch for 2 weeks.

Thanks for that tool! I looked through all the births in the Gort registration district for the Kellys I'm searching for and couldn't find anything. Maybe they just didn't get registered...

    Shane you’re brilliant!

Have you spoken to Sr de Lourdes in Gort? She’s the local genealogist and knows about everyone

  • Registered Users Posts: 17 blander

Yes, I e-mailed her about a year ago. She graciously spoke with the family still living there, unfortunately they didn't even know their great grandparent's names (Michael Kelly and Bridget Ford) let alone the generation before that. I should probably e-mail her again one of these days.

That's odd - no issues with it myself the past few days.

I did get a response from them to an email re the Captcha. They weren't aware of any issue but it's been somewhat improved since so maybe they reset something.

Probably just wishful thinking, but any chance we could get the 1917 Births, 1942 Marriages and 1967 Deaths in the next few weeks?

The National Archives have the issue of the 30 year State Papers down to a fine art. Really shouldn't be a difficulty in the CRO doing the same with the 100, 75 and 50 year rule on things in their possession.

To be honest what I really need is the 1926 Census...:)

First we should get the historic deaths,

There is no privacy issue in relation to someone who is dead a century and a half.

Indeed there shouldn't be a difficulty but whomsoever's in charge always manages to prove us wrong on that count.
