32 counties in 24 hours

    I recall the guys in that short lived show "I dare ya" attempting this but only doing 29ish.

    They started in Dublin. I plan to try this starting in the Athlone Co Roscommon area.

    Can you recommend a route that covers all 32 counties in the quickest way. More to the point, do you think it is feasible. We dont need to stop in any county, so i think we can pick up time that way. 2-3 drivers also

    easy with motorway , do ballymahon granard into cavan granard longford sligo ballyshannon ( clip over to fermanagh and back) donegal lifford strabane to derry to belfast airport then south to dundalk from belfast airport > into monaghan > ardee dublin wexford waterford kilkenny carlow athy then to portlaois or abbeyleix to north corkgo thru limerick and clip kerry in tarbert take ferry and then clare to tuam ( into Mayo and out ) and back to athlone via Mountbellew quick shufty to ferbane and back to finish with offaly. I think that is all of them.

    Make sure ferry is running!

    Some counties you barely enter, like Kildare, and I also tried to do as few U-turns as possible. It is of course open to correction.

    Could take a bit of time to load.

    You are spending too much time on crap roads in the north loop. only touch cavan north of granard and touch fermanagh east of ballyshannon. strabane is in tyrone and you cross down armagh and antrim coming to dundalk

    from east of lough neagh follow the dublin road to dundalk, to carrickmacross, then ardee and to dublin.

    You have done all of Ulster, Sligo Leitrim Westmeath Meath Louth Dublin at that point and travelled 400-420 miles on good roads not on crap ones.

    That route takes in some truly appalling roads. N16 (Sligo Enniskillen), N81, Granard Drogheda. Try to plan around the motorways and the low-N roads, even if it means U-turns.

    Are the locals really that dumb on the newer stretches that they need such things spelled out?

    Are the locals really that dumb on the newer stretches that they need such things spelled out?

    No, are you? You can do a u-turn at intersections. ie where the motorway is crossed over by another road on off and on ramps.

    Best time to start this one would be about 6-7pm in Offaly, thereby missing all the rush hours and hitting most of the main urban areas in the middle of the night. If I was revising it, I'd be tempted to start in Kerry, so as to no have to gross Cork or Limerick.

    That much driving is a lot for one team (and car) - you can't properly rest in a moving car (unless you are aged 4 or under :)).

    Of course, there are now 35 counties.

    Thanks Victor (and everyone else) for the efforts. Problem is, we start in Athlone Co. Roscommon. Also im not that up with county borders in NI (and google maps for some reason doesnt have them despite having them in ROI)

    Here is what i have sofar


    Start at M6 Junction 13 towards Dublin (RN, WH, OY, MH, KE, DUB)
    North at M50 to M1 juncton northbound as far as crossing Lagan river (LH, DN)
    U-turn (at next junction:D) and follow M1 northern ireland westbound (Armagh)

    It gets a bit hazy after that. But thats 9 counties in 4 hours. Pretty good going. Looking at Victors NI map, he doesnt seem to tip Derry/Donegal?

    Anyone recommend where i go from my route to get the North/Ulster out of the way. We have Monaghan/Fermanagh or Derry/Donegal to plunder next.

    Recommendations?

    I don't want to sound like a spoilsport, but the entire idea sounds dangerous to me. I think it will encourage you to take chances on the road if you get caught behind slow traffic - besides which wouldn't it be better to hand the petrol cost over to the charity?
