Voicemail

171 - Access/setup voicemail - To activate voicemail on Meteor you need to text mail to 50102 first.
172 - Change your greeting - not supported by Meteor
173 - Change your voicemail PIN (default 0000) - not supported by Meteor

To check your voicemail from a landline or from another phone just added 5 after the prefix and press # when you hear your greeting. e.g. your number is 086 1234567, dial 086 5 1234567, press # when you hear your greeting, enter your PIN, follow prompts.

Having trouble setting up voicemail diverts? Check this out.

Premium SMS / Spam

If you receive a SPAM / Unsolicited SMS you haven't agreed to receive, refer to RegTel and the procedures to take as outlined by the operators on their sites.

Consumer Advice from RegTel on Premium Rate Services

Consumer Advice on Premium Rate Services

Vodafone:
Unsolicited Text Messages Procedure

O2:
What to do if you are receiving SPAM text messages (Scroll to end of page)

Meteor:
50002 Anti-Spam Alert Service

ComReg provide a service to do a reverse look on the SMS Shortcode from which the message orignated
ComReg SMS Code Allocations

Summary Guide of the regulations in relation to Direct Marketing (including SMS) from the Data Protection Commissioner: European Communities (Electronic Communications Networks and Services):
A Consumer Guide to Dealing with Unsolicited Direct Marketing.

RegTel recently introduced legislation to say that all premium text operators need to respond to the command "stop".
http://www.regtel.ie/unsubscribe.php

E.g. if you're receiving text messages for 57080, create a new text saying "stop" (upper or lower case, without quotes) and send it to 57080.

****

If in doubt as to where the credit is being taken from you can just ring your provider who should be able to tell you and provide contact details. From here then you need to request that you need to contact the company and get yourself unsubscribed.

****

If you're on O2 and receiving SPAM SMS you can block SMS / MMS using their Block It service. Full info is here.
NB: This will not block premium SMS.

what network a number is on, identify mobile network

What network is a number on?

You have a couple of options...

Call them
Listen for the beep before call is connected - means on a different network

Check online
With Meteor and with O2 your call history is online so you'll be able to see what network they're on after you've sent your first text or made your first call to them.

Text the number to 50004
If you're on Meteor then you can text the number to 50004 and they will tell you if it's on Meteor or not

Dial into their voicemail
If they haven't customised their voicemail it may say "you have reached the O2 voicemail of ...". If their number is 086-1234567 then dial 086-5-1234567.

Ask them
I'm sure they'll tell you!

(Thanks Davy)
