The Bugatti Veyron: The most powerful, most expensive production car of all time It's been rumoured for a while, but finally it appears to be about to come to pass - Ireland will see its first Bugatti Veyron early this year.

Cunningham Higgins Specialist Cars in Galway has confirmed that it has one of the 400km/h machines on order for an - as yet unnamed - Irish customer.

Niall Cunningham, while insisting it was strictly "unconfirmed" as yet, said he was confident the supercar would be delivered within the next two months. There is no official retail price for the car in Ireland, but it is estimated the buyer will be at least €1.2 million out of pocket.

It is quite a coup for Cunningham Higgins. Slots on the waiting list for the Veyron, of which only 300 are being built, cost over €400,000. Developed in conjunction with Bugatti's parent company Volkswagen, the all-wheel drive Veyron is the most powerful, most expensive production car of all time. It is also the fastest, with a proven top speed of over 400 km/h.

Its V16 eight-litre quad-turbocharged engine generates 1,001 horse power, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds.

It reaches 200 and 300 km/h in 7.3 and 16.7 seconds respectively.

This performance comes at a price - the Veyron is also the thirstiest supercar ever.

It goes through 40.4 L/100 km (5.82 mpg) in city driving and 24.1 L/100 km (10 mpg) in combined cycle.

If driven at full speed, its range would be a mere 80 kilometres, with its 100-litre fuel tank emptying in just 12.5 minutes.

Clarkson test drove one of these shorty after they started selling them and he described it as the closest thing to a fighter jet without wings.

If I had the money, a Veyron would definitely be on my shopping list, along with a Marine Technologies Y2K

I think the owner of Molloy And Sherry Transport ordered one. I think his son owns Richford Motor Company...we talked about it on the "Here's What I Saw Today" thread

I'm surprised to hear that Cunningham Higgins have it ordered. I would have thought it would have to go through MSL? €1.2 is a little shy of the €1.9 estimate that Des Cullen Cars came up with last year...

Can't wait to see one in ireland. Just as AJ said, No way is it going to be 1.2 million in ireland as they are selling abroad for that and then the vrt has to be added and the dealers profit.Also i would have thought Des cullen would have got the order instead of cunningham as cullen is more exclusive.

Hey I say good luck to the bloke or blokess that's going to get this car. Fair play. As a car though it leaves a lot to be desired in my humble.

The most impressive thing about it for me is the team of engineers that shoehorned all of that into a car whose outside design was fixed by management and marketing(a design which to my eyes is all over the place. it looks like it's constipated). Kudos to them, but it's more a backward engineering exercise than a car.

Ya ya, you're probably right, but thats not the point. The point is that if you want the ultimate drivers machine, then you can have the F40 in the garage for the track. If you just want the ultimate powerhouse aswell and drive it every day (within reason), then the Veyron is serious. In fairness, give the McLaren a 10 second head start (at which point its at 124mph) and then start from standstill in the Veyron and it'll still get to 200mph first. Thats nothing short of incredible in a machine that weight!
And also no point in saying that the mclaren has a better engine cause it's not turbo charged... sure at 102bhp per litre, Honda have hammered that with the S2000 engine if we're comparing whats' the best N/A. Not really the point in cars like these!

I didn't I was just pointing out the Mclaren as an example is a better and more efficient engine/power design. The veyron could have been even better given a free rein from the start as opposed to being back engineered. Also as an "everyday" car the Mclaren would likely be the better bet. More seats, bigger storage space, better packaging in general, bigger range and far less to go wrong. I suspect if you found both cars in a shed 50yrs from now the F1 would be easiest to get going. The Veyron while impressive is an (brilliant)engineering solution to a marketing exercise. Oh AFAIR the honda integra was way before the s2000 in beating the Mclaren.

TBH, I'm not surprised that Cunningham Higgins are ordering it; they do a suprisingly large amount of Aston Martins, Porsches, Ferraris and their ilk. Nice bunch of people to deal with, too.

Plus they don't look down their noses at people with MUCH lower budgets (sub €10k!). A friend of mine got a great deal there last year on a '01 525 Sport with high spec and low mileage; they were several thousand euros cheaper than any other one we could find.

Yes but the shape of the ugly critter means more wind resistance. And also as you get faster and faster more power is needed per mph of top speed. So the extra few mph of the veyon over the F1 might seem little but it corresponds to massive extra power required.

Sure but Ferdi had to put his mark in motoring history somewhere. He did well with the Veyron which of course was a tour de force. Fair play to Ferdi as he wasn't blessed with the same surname as the other Ferdis
