Thanks fc,
I use weather underground a lot myself it's a good site.
The BBC site also has a handy if rather small radar image updated every hour or so.

I'll sticky this and if anybody has any further hand links, they can post them.

www.worldweather.org

Best site I've seen for Worldwide weather forecasts. It uses actual forecasts from the respective country's Meteorological Services rather than direct model output which can be shaky enough.

I use

www.accuweather.com

Find them pretty good for 15 day forecast for anywhere in the world. Today's weather on an hourly basis.

Will have a look at the other links though

Don't believe anything past 7 days and take anything after three with a pinch of salt. Seriously.

I've a new lightning detector set up at http://www.irishwan.org/lightning/screenshot.png . I'm still getting used to the software, and am looking for a better map to use, and have to mount the antenna up higher to get it away from noise in the house, but it seems to be working fairly well. Have it zoomed in to a 400KM radius, though it can go to 600KM - was seeing some strikes in the bay of biscay earlier on!

Brendan, there seems to be a right peppering on your map now, down to the south and in the English channel.
Whats the difference between the red, yellow and orange dots?

The stormtracker uses some readily available kit called the Boltek Stormtracker - it and the software I'm using are available from www.meteorologica.co.uk.

The yellow squares represent the most recent lightning strikes. They turn orange and then red as the strikes get older till they eventually disappear after 2 hrs.
