I've booked flights to Bari in Italy travelling in April then getting the train to Lecce probably for 3 or 4 nights then staying in another town for 3 or 4 nights too so I'm looking for recommendations on where to stay in the Puglia region and also day trips we can do please.

We're planning on using public transport.

Get out to Matera if you can, stunning place. So unique. Can't remember where we stayed there, but we stayed in 1 of the hotels that was cut into the cliff, our bedroom was a cave.

We spent a night in Gallipoli as well, which I thought was a cool little spot.

Other than that, we had a car, a spent a lot of time just cruising along. Most of the towns on the Adriatic coast are decent, Monopoli being the one I remember.

Lovely part of the world, just good food and a nice vibe wherever you go. Enjoy!

Planning a similar DIY trip.

A lot of the Travel companies do escorted tours to that area. You could have a look at their itinerary to if there is anything of interest.

Puglia is on my list, I've been doing a bit of research, I like to mix a bit of chilling out on a beach with sightseeing, Gallipoli looks like a good base.
