Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Fair play! Any plans for it yet?

I'm thinking of getting rotary sticks for this one and using it for games like ikari warriors and midnight resistance. Fond memories of playing midnight resistance on the same model cab in the local bowling alley.

Or putting it side by side with another xenon and seeing is there a way to get four player games going across two cabs with a netplay emulator. That would be pretty nice.

The refurb will have to wait until next year.

    .

I once had 2 cabs linked running League Bowling on the Neo geo.
2 one slots and 2 carts

Thanks for the tip. I was reading up on it over the weekend and there are some games that support native "link play" like you describe. MAME is good at supporting those as well as the m2 model2 emulator. It uses a network connected PC in each cab emulating the game individually with the "link play" code sent between the PC's over the network. I'll check out league bowling to see if the link play is emulated.

"net play" is the other type that would be great for the four player konami classics games like turtles, sunset riders, simpsons. The net play feature is available in "fightcade" and "retroarch" but I doubt they would support a CRT like the way groovymame does. Still looking into this, maybe it is possible.

I went into Amazon JP to check when my mini astro city is due and saw they have a mini Pasocom PC-8001 PCG that they say fits in the palm and has a working basic version on it along with 21 games. Only 1 left in stock atm. I'd love to buy it but at 200 Euro inclusive of postage my love for mini-systems is not strong enough, still a bargain if you're a hardcore collector.

Doesn't seem to be any way if getting the case on its own so there's no cheaper alternative.

Need a tube for one of those as well...not buying a whole cabinet though.

    Possibly a suitable 25" tube:

    Anyone know the game/maker?
I thought it was the sega naomi based one at first but not sure.
Has a bit of a namco vibe,

Had a search on KLOV and the only video game called 8 ball was a century electronics machine from 1981.
No info or pic though so may not be it.

A quick search and it seems they were involved with a lawsuit against another company for copyright infringement on the game :)

can't find much about the game itself or the inside though. that monitor looks like a CRT chassis from the back alright. weird shape for sure

    14 inch PVM on adverts.

I want to say it's 100-150 euro overpriced, but with the way things have gone as of late who even knows anymore!

    https://www.adverts.ie/tv/sony-pvm-1442qm-pro-video-rgb-monitor/22703852?utm_source=email&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=SearchAlert

It's a PVM 1442QM so not exactly new, probably made sometime in the early 90s. To put it in perspective, the last line of PVMs made was the L series in the early 2000s.

Still, not something you see pop up too often.

I put an offer in, 140, it's unlikely but we have to start somewhere!

Yeah I wouldn't fancy spending that much on an older monitor too. Could literally crap out on you just as you start using it.

In other news, CDI on adverts!

'bargain' is subjective, but the Sonic 1 prototype which was dumped recently is now for sale on ebay:

I see the lad who's selling the PVM also has a Who Wants to be a Millionaire touch screen machine with a broken monitor for 50 euro.

    https://www.adverts.ie/arcade-retro/who-wants-to-be-a-millionaire-arcade/22710004

Would take a punt if I actually had a games room, would be a bit of fun to have in the corner. From what he says (apparently the monitor was working in December), chassis off in the post to grantspain might be all it needs.

This is sold pending payment, Upgrading to a boxed console and finally found a copy of Wand of Gamelon for a reasonable price, so as soon as they arrive should be stuck in :)

Oh was that yourself? I had a feeling it might have been someone around here, given how much we seem to love to self flagellate with failed consoles around these parts!

I was almost tempted, but then remembered selling my 3DO the year before last, so came to the conclusion this might suffer the same fate.

I just did a service on my CD-i last night(drive belt, grease, clean etc). Ended up playing some terrible games and loving it :)
I must say, the RGB out on the 220/40 model is super clean.

  • Registered Users Posts: 567 ✭✭✭Burzum

Yeah it is more of a pick up and play once or twice a year console to be fair, well for me atleast. Saying that flashback and mutant rampage bodyslam are on my play list for the console so when I have a long weekend I will spend a couple of days on those.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,526 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

That PVM is down to 200...
You think it's a good price or should it be even less?
They come up so rarely I would love to pick it up.
Not sure where to put it mind...

IMO it's not worth more than 140-150 but then they come up rarely enough here and you also run the risk of someone else swooping in.

With the speed he's been dropping the price I'd say you could get it for less. Maybe offer 170?

Edit - I see there's a signature on the back with what looks like 02/2004.

Might mean it was serviced/inspected in Feb 2004

Are these sets capable of 60Hz? I assume so, but the seller has defiled the screen with 50Hz images...

I'm very tempted but the games room is clogged with displays now.
I could get rid of the crappiest one, do some rearranging with the rest.
Could be a project for the Spring.
I got some storage boxes that might make it all a little more organised.
    Hmm...
