They won't allow delivery to Ireland, UK or Germany :/

I think nvidia are pretty strict about no preorders allowed? So I wouldn't worry about missing ephemeral preorder listings on amazon

How so? From what I see it's around 50% better than 2080 (which should be somewhere between 2070S and 2080S).

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

    It's not 50% better, it's nearly 100% better.

If the 2080s is 60-70% of the 3080 then the 3080 is 60-80% faster than that which would put it close to 100% faster than the 2080.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,770 ✭✭✭Cordell

100% faster means twice as fast, which is not :)
Those results are made to be as much as incomprehensible as they can for some weird reason (probably incompetence, as they throw in results that clearly look CPU bound), the baseline should be 2080 and the conclusion should sound like 3080 is xx% faster than 20xx. Instead, they say
On average than RTX 2080 Ti is 24% slower than RTX 3080, RTX 2080 SUPER is 37% slower, RTX 2070 SUPER – 45%, and RTX 2060 SUPER is 50% slower
We don't care how slow 2000 series are, we care how fast 3080 is ...
But in the end what matters is that 3080 is fast, a significant increase over 2080 in both raw and RT power.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

It's closer to 100% than it is to 50%.

2 apples is 50% of 4 apples. 4 apples is 100% more than 2 apples.

    I don't think you've grasped the % there.

    Edit: Bloodbath there before me.

Yes, in some tests is getting closer to 100% faster, but on average it's not quite there. In any case, it's anything but dissapointing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

I'd take the far cry benchmark with a pinch of salt. Looks like it's heavily cpu limited at 1080p and even 1440p. 4k the gap opens up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,684 ✭✭✭✭Samuel T. Cogley

I was expecting more than a 24% gain on the 2080ti given the 3070 is meant to be faster than a 2080ti.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

You're still not calculating the percentages properly. It's a 40-50% gain on the 2080ti. The 2080ti is 20-25% slower than the 3080.

Doesn't look like those sort of gains from the leaked Benchmarks.

    8010 to 10862 is c.25% gain, no?

nope 3080 would be 35.6% faster just looking at those numbers

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

    Refer to apples analogy.

2 apples is 50% of 4 apples. 4 apples is 100% more than 2 apples.

    Therefore 8010 is 73.74% of 10862 and 10862 is 35.6% more than 8010.

Where has this 50% faster (than a 2080ti) come from?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

Me miscalculating in my head. It seems to be around 22-36% depending on what numbers you plug in.

I'd just wait for proper benchmarks at this stage. The way they calculated those is a mess.

Far cry new dawn is a useless benchmark as well.

Benchmarks are due Monday aren't they?

Monday yeah. There were other benchmarks there from a Chinese source.

    3080 compared to 2080s

    Far Cry 5 +62%
    Borderland 3 +56%
    AC Odyssey +48%
    Forza Horizon 4 +48%

    https://videocardz.com/newz/alleged-geforce-rtx-3080-graphics-card-test-leaks-online

Doesn't look like they are going to be twice as fast as last gen outside of some very cherry picked scenarios, gg Nvidia marketing. Still very good though.

    I'm confused - I have a 1070, how many apples do I have?

3080 review embargo pushed back to the 16th at 6am PT (2pm Irish time on Wednesday).

That happened the other day. Apparently loads of reviewers didn't get their cards in time.

Think I will deffo wait for the 3080 super and Ti variants instead of mashing F5 on release date....the performance of the new rig even with my "Cooking Apple" GTX1060 in the rig.

I know the performance difference will be huge even upgrading to the 3080 but if I can get a 3080ti for not much more money its a no brainer. Only downside it passing on the 3080 launch and the Ti variants not out till the new year and miss the limited amount of 3080 cards!
