so whats the difference between that and what happened to jared payne or finn russell?
they made genuine attempts to catch the ball too.but because they didn't jump they are guilty?

If you don't jump you have to protect the player jumping

Yeah, as soon as it happened to someone other than Ulster they had to change the rules. One of the changes under the Lacey-Garces principle.

for better or worse do you mean?

the TMO said both players, made genuine attempts to catch the ball.
payne didn't take his eyes of the ball the whole time.
    whats the difference?

so just jump be default, to A) exonerate yourself from blame B) get the rub of the green if you land awkwardly.

Duty of care- you can't be reckless pull out and let him fall on his head/neck

It you jump late you could be in trouble. Genuinely contest the ball and protect the jumper.

Excellent bit of defending from the USA there. I took Kriel out of my fantasy team this week so he better not score!

    jared payne never pulled out.
finn russell had to pull out because he was about to get a knee in the face, like habana just did.

i dont understand this. i played fullback.
when a ball went up i wanted to catch the ball AND flatten the other guy.

    its a contact sport.

Was that even a full 10 minutes Habana and Scully were off for their concussion tests?

Habana and the USA player both jumped for the ball, collided and landed badly. Ref went to TMO decided not a penalty, scum no punishment

im agreeing with you. i just don't understand why in a transaction involving two people catching the ball one person has more culpability than the other.

you could argue that scully was the more dangerous of the two. he left the ground of his own volition, connected with habanas face, and ended up landing arse over tit for his troubles.

Who gets the credit for a penalty try? Specifically that one.

Tends to just be listed as penalty try. It was against the USA tight head so perhaps the SA loose?

i wouldn't go up to timidly catch the ball. id jump to catch and bump off with force anyone who dared come near.
