We got a quote of 120 euro per sq meter supply and installed, worked out at 5400 Euro, I was suprised at how costly it was so I said I would chance a few quotes at real stone but expected mad prices.

Summary Of Experience – This company have an extensive range of light fittings available from their website with pictures for everythung- I sourced 95% of the fittings for my recently completed house from them.

My overall experience was very positive. When my biggest order (> £900) went missing in the post, they redispatched after 10 working days with no problems or quibble at all. When I rang them back after 28 working days (blame on An Post for that one :mad: ) they asked me to SDS the box back to them and they refunded the charge to my CC. Very helpful to deal with but fitting selection is not for the uninitiated - you have to know what you're looking for.

Hi,

Regarding Senator Windows I have a client of long standing who used the Franchise holder for North Dublin to replace all of the windows in her home thinking she was dealing with Senator Windows.

Yes Franchise, She thought she was using Senator Windows the company with the big advertisements on TV and the phone directories.

The fitting is terrible, the after sales service is only available to those who will constantly call the office and the attitude of what appears to be the majority of their service staff is nothing short of disgraceful.

I was called in to rectify a serious leak in what she believed to be the only roof remaining to be renewed, it turned out the water ingress was being caused by a poorly fitted window.

There are other windows that were poorly finished, I met with one of the more respectable employees who agreed the window was leaking, having explained the loyal customer that she is I recommended that each window should be serviced as an act of good faith and practicality and make good all defects which in my view was necessary.

Today some two months later the client asked for a guide costing on rectifying "Senator's" errors.

Recommendation ? I think definitley not especially the "Dublin Franchise".

It appears they not only use the franchise system but everyone from the salesman to the labourers are sub contractors.

Not a good combimation in my book for customer service as each team makes money based on the speed they work at, after sales service appears to be non existant.

Found a cheaper insurer at the self build show. I am beginning to enjoy this quotation business (sad, I know) but so many companies are out to make a killing and I'm quickly realising that the most expensive product on the market is not necessarily the best.

Hi all

Great thread, found loads of links and awaiting quotes. Just wanted to update on Clarke homes, they have recently changed their terms and con's :mad:

to the following:

20% - deposit on signing contract
60% - two weeks later once working drawings have been supplied
20% - 10-days before the frame arrives on site

In effect you pay 80% of the price before Clarke's start making your house... A big change from their previous terms which was,

5% - deposit on signing contract
20% - On reciept of working drawings
75% - once frame on site.

Have been in contact with the sales rep at Clarkes who has advised the new T&C's are very stringent and its making his job v. difficult (understandably as this is nothing like industry standard). All respect to him though, extremely professional and kept in contact reguarly as we have had issues getting the funds through due to a string of illness... Think we have resolved it with them now and are paying 20% up front and 60% on the next down payment of our mortgage once the groundworks have been done, with a letter from our solicitor guarenteeing payment!

I have mention this in other sections of boards.ie We got so annoyed with Tradepeople not returning calls, making excuses turning up late, not turning up at all that we developed www.mytrade.ie Reading through the threads here remind me of all the gray hairs that we grew after building what must have been a world record length of site.

Essentially what we wanted to do was allow people become a project manager from their computer. They can now book a tradesman.

PLease have a look your thoughts would be appreciated. It is so frustrating when you dont have other numbers to call, thats why we did it.

The tradesman was really good and was a member of the National guild - thats why I went with him. I didn't see your service but I'll have a look..

came across this site recently homewise.ie who have most of these guys listed. they have a huge listing of tradepeople and other suppliers for all home and garden products all over the country. the thing that I personally found most useful was their review and rating system. I have used a carpenter and a builder based on reviews and ratings and was happy with service from both of them. They also offer online quotations. J. Cortina

Ordered a Chimney Balloon last week and I received it the next day delivered for free. (I don't know if that's standard, my house is on a popular run to the city center) I think they are based in Lucan.

Simple to fit and has made a difference already, regardless of where you get it, plus it's safer then just blocking the chimney up (speaking from experience in 1988 we had a fire in my bedroom due to a blocked up chimney my spectrum 48K+ never work properly afterwords)

These things shrivel up and melt away if someone lights a fire below them (or if one starts above them as it did in our house years ago)
