Would the highest point in Europe not be the tip of Mont Blanc? Rather than a point that appears to be half-way up a mountain?

Does it really matter? It's a great photo.

    Back on track....

Sun rises in the east and sets in the west. The further west you are the brighter it will remain!

Yeah but its night time in Geneva & sunny in Paris...night time in Barcelona & sunny in Madrid, surely the changeover from day/dusk/night is more diffused/spread out than that?

What you have is a bend of light over the horizon, so the light appears longer/disappears quick in the various parts. If you look up near dusk, you will see whats know as "The Terminator". This is a visible line, where one side is bright and the other side is dark. Its THAT specific. But due to light fragmentation/curve of the earth, atmospheric displacement and our eyes inability to notice it as such, it doesnt quite go dark in one place whilst sunny on the other.

    EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminator_(solar)

Double EDIT: Great site to see it live! http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/earthview.php

In the rainforests of South America, squirrel monkeys and capybaras would never meet. While squirrel monkeys live in trees up to 60 feet high, capybaras—the world’s largest rodents—dwell along river banks. But at the Beekse Bergen Safari Park in the Netherlands, the two species have shared an enclosure for eight years now, and they seem to be friends. The monkeys ride and groom the capybaras. They even eat and play together.

    This. Tread. Is. AWESOME!

Lord Howe Island, Australia & Nami Resort, Boracay are stunning places. Vanish roller coaster at Cosmo Land in Japan looks really cool. That wooden beam house in the forrest must have cost a fortune! The Abandoned And Haunted Hotel del Salto, Colombia also looks really cool. And that Aogashima island in Japan is amazing too. Amazing pictures, keep them coming please! Oh ya the picture above this post 'Africa' looks like something from an advert for Jungle Book!

Hotel Pilatus Kulm in Luzern, it's on the mount Pilatus, at 3000 mt height.
I have been there last weekend, the only way to reach the hotel is through the cableway, which takes 30 mins.
