    There'll be a lot of p45s handed out in the Chinese HQs of foreign companies in Shanghai tomorrow. The British Consulate is apparently riddled with party members working as local staff. According to the UK press, this is where MI6 operations in China are directed from.

    Before everyone goes loony with this. Chinese party membership is considered essential if you are to climb in China, so if someone is a CCP member it doesn't automatically mean they are a "spy", but it does mean that indeed they could have been used for info.

    Ah sure was the same with Uncle Joe in Russia, you had to be a party member, sure what harm if they're dug in like ticks at every level in the west.

    The CCP go to the universities each year and ask the first year students if they want to join.

    People may join as it improves their chances of getting certain jobs.

    Most Chinese people don't really care about the government and just go along with things as they don't understand better and don't want to make trouble.

    Being a member of the CCP doesn't make you a spy.

    I am pretty sure that being a secret member of the CCP while in a sensitive role in the US would not go down well at all and would likely be breach of contract at the very least if not a criminal action.
