Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Anyone fished it recently?

    Heading down on the weekend for a few hours.

    Third time fishing it, first trip not very successful, second with a guide which was very successful so trying again without a guide after getting a couple of tips.

    Is there any point dead baiting if you're not very familiar with the lake?

    Trawling with lures seems to be the go to or is there anything else that I should keep in mind?

    I wouldn't bother dead baiting at this time of year.
    Lures will be the way to go.
    I'd normally urge to leave like alone during warmer months, but it hasn't been that warm

    Its a vast expanse of water and there's a lot of water for fish to get lost in.

    Where are you intending to launch from?

    Launching from around the Hudson Bay area.

    Not targeting Pike specifically, was just to have the option for an hours break or so from trawling throughout the day.

    From Hudson Bay, head north towards the black islands.
    Good trout ground around there.
    Watch out for shallows there.

    Trolling tasmanian devil's is good on ree.

    Unfortunately not a very successful outing! Just the one jack for the day between 3 of us. We actually launched in lecarrow so didn't get to head up around the black islands. Trolled for the best part of the day with lures and stopped to do a bit of spinning every now and again. Used floating/sinking lures, spoons and a rubber jack pike lure (which is what the jack was caught on). The only thing I could think of was that the lures weren't diving deep enough or else the areas we covered just weren't good fishing ground. All in all still a really enjoyable day getting out but may just go with a guide again next time I'm on Ree!

    Nice one, if only the one fish.
    Its a large water and a lot of places for fish to hide.
    If you ever fancy a day out, let me know, I am without a boat at the moment, but id try to get you on some fish, no promises now, but I know the athlone end of the lake pretty well.
