I heard it on GBFM radio news but noting on their news site so I'm guessing it might have been a mix up?

I hope it goes through this time. An Bord Pleanála's reasoning that the application "monolithic" is ridiculous when you look at the surroundings of the proposed store. The new block being built next to Dunnes is much bigger!

Prospect Hill retailer served with closure order over substandard conditions.

A city retailer has been served with a closure order by the HSE over substandard conditions at the premises.

Super Ketones – located at Prospect Hill – was issued with the order under the Food Safety Authority Act, on the 22nd of August.

Inspectors found that several areas at 76 Prospect Hill were in a ‘filthy’ or ‘dirty’ condition and flies were noted throughout the premises.

They found the overall floor of the shop could not be maintained in a hygienic condition due to rips, tears and inadequate seals.

Pools of water were found on the floor through the rear of the shop and obsolete equipment was found in a ‘filthy’ condition.

The walls and floor of the cold room were also described as ‘filthy’, and rust was evident throughout the shelving and on the walls.

An over-stocked freezer was also found with a temperature four times below the required limit – and a bad smell was emanating from this unit.

Internal surfaces of the refrigeration units were also noted in a dirty condition, the staff toilet was described as ‘filthy’, and a number of lights were not working.

Inspectors also noted that a gap was noted at the bottom of the entrance door to the premises – despite a previous warning by a pest control company.

The HSE says the matters outlined during the inspection highlight a lack of knowledge and basic understanding of basic food hygiene requirements.

Jesus, how could such a small place be so ill-run. You would almost think from the report that it was some massive Tesco size space rather than a tiny shop. The thing about the freezer, barf.

How can a temperature be "four times below" a limit? Poor reporting.

It makes sense, in a sort of 'four times below the threshold' sort of way? The required temp is 18c and the shop was 4.5c or something like that.

Obviously I know technically it's 'above' when dealing with minus temperatures, but you know what I mean.

It doesn't make sense for temperature, it's a continuous scale that goes through zero. For example, how many times is 6 degrees higher than -2 degrees?

    Anyway, off topic....

Other news reports say the staff toilet was poorly maintained with water spillage all over in the back side of the store.

Much needed - but crazy to be allowing any construction so close to the shoreline any more. Compensation case waiting to happen when the sea levels rise.
