Burger King? Supermacs? We all know there’ll be a off beat donuts and a chopped salad bar. Maybe a boojum too. Traditional fast food is dead :)

On a serious note, the beach really missed this car park this weekend. Was down the beach several times and the amount of jams were crazy

Supermacs after a few pints will never die :D

Sure dealz has a clothes store

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Looks like some demolition work has started now on Florence road.

Good stuff, I saw that the car park was closed off last week.

Great to see the work starting.

Hope it makes good progress and opens by December 2019.

    Report about new cinema.

I really hope this does not happen. I feel Bray needs a normal cinema and not one with extras prices for a themed one.

I think it will be 4 or 5 screens with 1 of them more upmarket. Best of both worlds :pac:

Anyone have any updated news on this?
Heard an unconfirmed rumour that one of the anchor stores would be a Dunnes. If that was the case, the other 1 or 2 Dunnes would close, so I really hope this isn't the case.

why - the existing Dunnes Stores in Bray are small and cluttered, going into them is like going back in time to the 80s.

Exactly. Much prefer a Cornelscourt'esque Dunnes than what we have now.

The big problem for Bray mainstreet is the Chicken/Egg problem. No one will invest in parking if the town is dying and the town is dying because no one will invest in parking.....and if by some miracle someone did want to invest in some serious parking infrastructure......someone would object to the planning applications.

They are not that bad and its nice to have local stores.

the Florentine is bang in the centre of Bray - in fact it's more or less in between the 2 existing Dunnes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,080 ✭✭✭fjon

The two Dunnes moving to the new centre would mean those two stores will be empty - I doubt they will be let again, especially the one on the Quinsborough Road. Also, it would be nice to have an anchor store that doesn't already exist in Bray.
I agree though that they could both do with modernising, especially the food one.

Yes the new Dunnes such as Cornelscourt are great and have a very good food offering. The current store on Quinsborough road is not fit for purpose.

Hopefully once the Florentine Centre is completed it will breathe some life back into the main street. There will be 256 parking spaces in the new centre so that might help. I would imagine the traffic on the main street puts a lot of people off.

Its a small local store with no pretensions!

Its hideous, straight out of the 80s like people say. Tesco up the road isnt any better. Bray must have some of the only 80s style dark/dirty supermarkets left in the country tbh, I cant think of any other ones like that still standing, they've all been given the Cornellscourt style refurbishment.

the Tesco is no worse than the stores in Greystones and Wicklow, except for the annoying way one set of aisles is at right-angles to the other set.

I go into the Dunnes clothes shop and instantly I'm 10 years old again, waiting for my mum to buy me some socks.

I get flashbacks to a similar age when walking in there. Except it's back to being mortified by my mother making me taking off my trousers in the middle of the shop to try on a new pair.

Might pop in tomorrow and relive the moment. Wonder what would happen.

My wife worked in Dunnes until recently and was told there is no way Dunnes was going into florentine apparently they own both buildings currently apart from part of the Deli and the cost would be prohibitive to move as they do not believe there is a market atm for the 2 buildings.

I'm surprised at how little information there is available on this project.

Oakmount now have a page on their website with very little information.

Interesting that they call it "Bray Town Centre" which was the name for the scrapped Golf Lands shopping centre plans as opposed to Florentine.

Also says there will be a "Stella Theatre". This would be disappointing for me as I feel Bray just needs a normal cinema not a luxury/specialist one.

"Press Up restaurants" are mentioned too, this group includes Wowburger, Elephant & Castle, Wagamama and a few others. See Here.. They look to have good options.

That's all I can find. I thought more would be known at this stage as Cllr Matthews tweeted recently that it was still on track for December 2019 opening, which is not that far away now.

I read somewhere that there will be 5 cinema screens and that 1 of them may be like the Stella Rathmines and serve alcohol etc. Others would be your normal type.

But you are right there is very little information about what the final project will look like.

Its a bit concerning but Oakmount are good operators.

My understanding is there will 5 screems and 1 will be upmarket

Press up own the Stella so they obviously are going to run the Cinema and 2 restaurants in it

Is December the target for opening, or for the builders to finish?

December is the opening date AFAIK.

So you'd imagine there'd be details now as to what anchor tenants would be there as that all needs to be planned and budgeted well in advance.

If the tickets in that cinema are even a Euro dearer than Dun Laoighre or Stillorgan it will flop imo.

    Why?

    Depends what it's like.

Also Stillorgan is much dearer than Dun Laoghaire and both still going.
