Thought I may as well throw mine up.

Its been a while since I've done a build as my previous machine was an XP3800 @ 2.6 GHz, 2GB Geil value ram, DFI nF4 SLI-D, 7950 GX2,Hiper Type R580w load of fans etc. It was a noisy machine but served me well.

Anyway on to the new. :D

    dsc00174yy1.jpg

    dsc00175ui4.jpg

Emphasis for this build is quietness for general use but also the power for when I need it for playing games, encoding etc.

    Specs
    Antec P182
4096MB-Kit OCZ PC2-6400 ReaperX HPC Enhanced Bandwidth, CL4
    ASUS P5Q Deluxe
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
    Club3D HD4870 1024MB
    Corsair 620W
    Samsung F1 1TB 32MB SATA II
    Thermalright IFX-14
and a few Scythe S-Flex fans.

    dsc00176fx7.jpg

    dsc00177yn3.jpg

That IFX-14 is a monster. Too big in fact as I had awful trouble fitting it. I had to put the Scyte fan through the centre in the end as it was interfering with the memory slots and also had to modify (bend :( ) the back-side dual heatpipe heatsink at the top to fit it in the case properly. Anyway its a great cooler despite all that. The 4 cores are low 30's at stock.

    dsc00178xu1.jpg

Build complete. Pictures don't do the wiring justice. The P182 case allows for most of the cables to be routed around the back of the main board. The ATX12V 8-4 pin from the Cosair 620 barely fit around the back but tbh the placing of it on the P5Q is in crazy position imo.

    dsc00186tm8.th.jpg

Anyway that's it and it is whisper quite in normal use. Even after a few bench marks using 3dmark 06 (14400's) and an hour of COD4 the 4870 fan was only reaching a fan speed of 1200 rpm. I hope to clock the cpu up to around 3.4 Ghz depending on temps etc.

Nice. Did you get a monitor in it for that price? Also love that ram, looks fooking evil so it does.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,694 ✭✭✭Dingatron

Thanks. The monitor is a 22' V7 which I have had for a while. Was a bargin at the time and although its not a well know brand it does the job and have had no issues with it. Ram is nice. Runs stock at 4-4-3-15 timings at 2.1 V. The heat sinks mean you can't have 2 modules side by side though but 4 Gb should be plenty for me for a while. Should be good for when I clock the CPU.

    ty

Actually think the case is a big small. the i7 is that fricking big inside.

cabling was a bit of a problem; I dont have the hdd case fans powered on as a result.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,228 ✭✭✭techguy

Ah, now I remember..people said it was a tad bit small and that things were tight..

Are you using the stock cooler on that?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,396 ✭✭✭✭kaimera

    yeah, stock cooler.

it's running @ 145*20 which is up from the 130 stock fsb and temps are solid so far.

i think I'm going to have to p95 it again when I get home..error checking I dont think was enabled when I started it last night :embarressed:
