Does anyone one know the name of the Marvin Gaye album that has the songs "Heard it through the Grapevine"/"Let's Get it On"/"What's Going On" on it (or are they even on the same one?)? Would these still be easily available in shops ? Also if anyone knows of any compliation CD's or any suggestions on other good Motown artists that would be great....I sometimes get the urge to listen to that type of music but don't have any CD's

There are lots of marvin gaye compliations. HMV definatly sell a 2 disk one, which has all those songs.

Aye, there's a two disk "Best Of" which has all the hits though there's a two disc version of "What's Going On" which is worth four times what you'll pay for it.

It would be worthwhile to buy both albums 'what's going on' and 'let's get it on'. Probably could get them for €10 each in Tower Records.

As for motown, Stevie Wonder is the man. Would probably start with 'Songs in the key of life', double album, widely available. Magic. ;)

Agree with Doctor J about "Whats Goin On" and also DeeDee about "Songs in the Key of Life". When you've saturated the compilations i find the best guide for buying Stevie stuff is stick mainly to the 70's and ya can't go wrong. It's the same with soul in general. Marvin's "I Want You" and (critically panned) "Hear my Dear" should also be looked at, but then again he could sing underwater and i'd probably like it i hold him in such esteem ;)
