I don't think you have the timeline right there (you'd not be doing much running after that like) but yes someone did escape and ask the cops for help. That someone had the bad luck to be a Native American sex worker though so the cops didn't GAF. Also he was 14
He did seem like someone who was relieved to be caught, he'd made a note of all the victims' IDs and gave them up to the police immediately. And there was something like a seven year gap between the first and second killings, at which point to be fair he did rather let himself go. From what I can gather the whole murdering bit was basically an unpleasant necessity to get to the having sex and generally messing around with dead bodies and making his shrines and whatnot. Before he became a (serial) killer he'd been barred from a bunch of saunas for drugging the men he was picking up so he could have sex with them while unconscious, seems to be the compromise he temporarily reached with himself. Drugging his victims before murdering them might have been a safety thing (SO MUCH HARDER to be a gay serial killer!) but there seems to have been some twisted notion of mercy there, he was a necrophiliac but not a sadist.
