High temps forecast could make this one interesting

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

Unusual to see drivers taking 4 of the mediums, normally its just a handful taking three. Maybe Kyvat and Hulk know something with just one set of the mediums!!

Hopefully a great race with temps so high the tyres hit the cliff early and without real warning.

How will Mercedes fare in a race with similar high temperatures to Austria?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

I think atmospheric conditions not being too high in the sky shouldn't affect them as much.

Ah, so it is altitude as opposed to heat that they have trouble with? Interesting!

It could very well have been both factors. Take one away and it won't be as bad for Merc. Mexico is also a very high race so it may be telling at that race also.

Only FP1 but the new Williams seems an improvement. Kubica wasnt too far behind Giovinazzi and decently ahead of Russell. The semi-new Racing Point not to bad either both only ran on the mediums.

    Edit.

Forgot to mention Grosjean's Haas (Australian spec) beats Magnussen again. Haas have been making their car worse since Australia.

Russell running with the upgrades in FP2, slightly ahead of Kubica but a second adrift of Gio.

Forecast to be a lot cooler over the weekend with a possibility of rain, so not much can be read into the high temp running today!

No rain ,Vettel voted against that this year ...

Track limits being enforced now for turns 1 and 17. If any part of the car goes beyond the kerb your time gets deleted. That'll make for a very confusing qualy.

It's good they're enforcing the limit, will reward the drivers who get it right and punish mistakes.

The ferrari looks quick but I can't escape the feeling Mercedes are holding something back

Going to see lots of stewards action again, hurray.

Its a start I guess. Prefer those sausage kerbs to really punish them but hey ho.

Vettel with some engine problem sitting in the garage without a time on the board, chance of going out in Q1

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,614 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Ferrari must be cursed or something, Vettel out

A quarter of a second separating 3rd form the drop zone. This is crazy, anybody could go out

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,614 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Both Racing Points into Q2, hallelujah the upgrades have helped.

    Norris out is surprising

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,614 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Verstappen now with an engine problem, bummer he was in the mix

Edit: he's on track, good news

Five different teams eliminated in Q2, the midfield fight is insanely tight
