Insurers will launch a salvage operation practically immediately and plenty of big tugs in that part of the world to bring the ship back to a safe port. Also likely a "friendly" warship will hang around to make sure no one else gets there first. A very important part of the world with a lot of people keen to keep things calm.

Video shows either Iranian Revolutionary Guard or someone doing their best to look like Iranian Revolutionary Guard removing a limpet mine from Kokuka Courageous

It's surprising how well the tankers held up after the attacks both in terms of not sinking and not completely blowing up.

I presume it was somebody who wanted to cause a large bang, a bit of damage and get lots of attention.

I think they could have easily sunk them with a suitably placed quantity of explosive but didn't.

Tankers will have multiple tanks and double skins. So if one is punctured it will leak out but not effect the overall stability or lead to a total loss of cargo. A bigger explosion will obviously cause much more severe damage.

Car carrier capsized in Georgia, US.

They were in shallow water, very lucky for crew that were trapped.
