Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

CentOS - End of an Era?

    You don't read much about it in the forums here but when I needed enterprise Linux the place to go was always CentOS.

    CentOS, for those who don't know, was community compiled version of the source that went into creating RHEL - effectively a free version of RHEL. It was possible because RHEL was open source!

    Yesterday it was announced that CentOS 8 would no longer be based on the latest RHEL 8 ,but rather the RHEL development release.
    over the next year we’ll be shifting focus from CentOS Linux, the rebuild of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), to CentOS Stream, which tracks just ahead of a current RHEL release. CentOS Linux 8, as a rebuild of RHEL 8, will end at the end of 2021
    Which I always understood is what Fedora was... at least when it was released first. Anyway, full details in the link below.
