I see the Triathlon Calendar on Triathlon Ireland website looks fairly complete. But no Jailbreak this year. Anyone know the story?

I imagine an awful lot of races are still weighing up wether they should try and organise an event this year at all with the covid situation still looming. It’s an awful lot to ask volunteers to organise an event only for it to be cancelled and then have them getting grief from people when it’s not their fault. It could also still be added to the calendar at a later date if there is a more positive outlook

Cork Tri Club, who run Jailbreak, only mention King Of The Hill & The Lost Sheep (their other races) on their website.

I'd imagine that a lot of organisers don't want the grief that may come with cancelled / curtailed events and the risk in investing and potentially losing money in an event that may not happen and the hassle and time it takes to refund entry money.

On the plus side I see Pikeman in Wexford is on the calendar, I haven't seen this listed in a while, one of the best organised races I've done and the flattest bike course in Ireland ;)

Cobh Tri run Jailbreak. Cork Tri run the above races.

I imagine most clubs are starting to plan their races and feasibility of running them; restricted numbers, staggered starts, bigger transitions etc...

It’s on the TI Callander for May 16th. But it’s no longer a NS race.

Not that competitive in recent years, also very early for a NS race.

just seen that actually. Must have been added not the long ago. If you look at NS races. There isn't any on there yet by the looks of it.

They had listed a bunch of races listed as NS a few weeks back, seems to have been changed since. It'd be very difficult to keep the NS "fair" in a year with changing lockdown restrictions. Besides which, what club race committee needs the extra hassle of NS compliance when there's a large chance your race might be cancelled?

Look to be honest I couldn't care less about NS or not. I like do 1 or 2 NS races to see the improvement year on year. This year it would be Carlow & Tyrone. That was the plan last year so we give another shot this year. I heard a lot of good things of HOTW, Sheephaven & Lost Sheep. HOTW carried over from last year so will be doing that one.
If none of them happen there is always Celtic Warrior or the Hardman race series. Fingers crossed we get to do something this year.
