It seems that my issue was caused by an unexpected side effect in my code of the switch from stop_id to stop_code. For me it is solved as decribed in my previous post. Other implementations may not have this problem.

As far as I can make out, a lot of data is missing from the download zip files. Really screws up the testing.

I'm up and running with the new endpoints and can now show where the bus is.

There seems to be good AVL coverage. At peak times there can be over 1300 buses tracked in the VehiclePosition feed and even now at 22:00 I'm seeing 660.

And the nice thing about having bus locations is that if one is showing, it's unlikely to be a phantom.

Actually no Bus Eireann buses have been appearing in the Vehicle Position feed since yesterday morning.

Anyone know of a mechanism for reporting issues like this ?

They are appearing in the TFI app which suggests it could be pulling AVL form a different source. Worrying if that is the case as the only way the open feeds will work is if everyone is if official apps are pulling from them too. In that way outages will be noticed quickly.

Dublin bus and go ahead are in there

I suspect the problem is a static/realtime mismatch. Just emailed the following to support:

    ----------

From yesterday morning there seems to be a mismatch between the latest schedule which can be downloaded from:

    https://www.transportforireland.ie/transitData/Data/GTFS_Realtime.zip

and the real time feeds at:

    https://api.nationaltransport.ie/gtfsr/v2/TripUpdateshttps://api.nationaltransport.ie/gtfsr/v2/Vehicles

It looks like route identifiers for Bus Eireann may be different between the two. Currently there are about 130 unique route identifiers appearing in the vehicle position feed which are not in the latest static routes.txt file.

I suspect these are Bus Eireann predictions and these identifiers don't currently exist in the latest scheduled routes.txt and cannot therefore be linked.

    Regards,

Bustimes.org showing no live RTPI bus location all day, but the TFI live app is showing these bus locations.

Is there an issue with the system or is TFI not providing data to external users to encourage the use of the crap TFI Live app?
