Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Shower query

    We have a T90sr, in the last few weeks got a water softener installed. Up until then we would run the shower on cold for a minute or 2 after a shower as an engineer said it would extend the life of the element with the lime.
    Is there a need to do this anymore?

    Secondly, the odd time there is a bit of a "squeel" as the shower is running. Could that be the pump failing or is it likely lime in the can?

    Running it cold for 10 seconds was plenty. No extra benefit running it longer. With the water softening there is no need to run it on cold on a new shower. If your element has a decent buildup of limescale then running it cold could prolong the life of the TCO.

    The squeel is most likely the motor but this does not automatically mean its on the way out. These silent motors are the most robust I've ever seen. A typical Pumped electric shower will throw up 1 or 2 bad pumps every 100. They would be replaced under warranty. These motor would be 1 in every 500.

    The element was only replaced at the end of February so hopefully not too much of a buildup.
