And mine too! What are the chances of that appearing on the front of the Irish Times and Irish Independent in the morn?

I'm absolutely fooking raging that I cancelled my Sky Sports last month, I didn't even cop that something important may be coming up :(

    Great result though!

Did TV3 sports tonight show hi-lights? I switched it on about 5 minutes into the show and saw nowt??

The lads on Newstalk's Off The Ball are really getting into the CWC, fair play.

That was brilliant. I was in the Jackpot casino playing poker in dublin city centre and for the last 20 minutes nobody was looking at the cards, just watching the cricket. The last ball went and everyone was shouting, it was just surreal. I never thought I would find cricket so exciting.
Great performance to come back when all looked lost.
    Bring on Pakistan :)

was on my feet for the last hour shouting at the tv. magic stuff, an absolutely thrilling contest that had me hooked from the first ball to the last.

A great advert for the game in this country.

I've decided im staying in tomorrow night to watch the Pakistan match. Can't wait.

Fanatastic game. I got to hear the start of the Irish innings, and much of the Zimbabwean innings.

It seemed a very nervy start and really looked poor at 89-5, but Jeremy was awesome to effectively carry his bat. Dave Langford-Smith deserves huge praise for his part in that 9th wicket partnership.

Some very tidy bowling and it seemed that many times the match was slippig away, only for wickets and maidens.

Certainly Zimbabwe had it in the bag after a good recovery from 133-5, but what a final 5 overs as it swung this way and that way, and in the end, the old cliché "catches win matches" seems apt as we spilled a few. To get a result is fantastic but I can't help feeling we had them as well.

Was right there with you m8. On my feet for most of the last 10 overs. ODIs can be the most nail-biting sport you'll see. Haven't enjoyed a game as much since the '04 ICC Champions Trophy final - Windies v England, Windies won in the dark with 2 overs left to play!

There was an extensive report on the match from Robbie Irwin on the RTE2 news at around 11pm last night. It was the lead story in the sports news.

WOW. I gave the game a chance last night. I'm a cricket virgin and have to say it was an enthralling end to it.

What makes it such a great game IMO is the way a match can be seemingly drifting towards an inevitable result ala zim last night needing 18 off 38 with only 5 down, when suddenly you get an amazing passage of play like what ensued. From the point they got your man lbw Im sure there was nobody who could take there eyes off it. Shakespeare couldnt have written the script, incredible drama.

I'm really heartened to see so many newbies get into the match for the first time, saying so here on this thread. It's what I wanted, more people to know that there is an Irish team, and they can compete on the world stage. :)

Does RTE have anyone in the Windies for this or did they assume Irelands participation would be of zero interest?

    Mike.

I guess the majority of this country are still of the opinion that playing cricket is tantamount to flying the union jack at the G.P.O.

John Kenny is out there for RTÉ Radio, and Robbie Irwin is out there for TV News. John Kenny was commentating on TMS yesterday.

I'm actually surprised at the amount of coverage that they've had. I listen to Newstalk all day and Fosters have sponsored the WC news which has ensured informative coverage.

Okay-doke, I'll have to pay more attention. The sport headlines on Morning Ireland and Pat Kennys 11 am slot have been pretty poor to my ears.

    Mike.

John Kenny has had great features on Saturday Sport on Radio 1, long interviews with Adi Birrell amougst others. John covers the sport as well as one can, where soccer, GAA and rugby get more of a look-in.
