I really do hope she gets the permanent gig now. She has a voice for radio for sure, and can handle the grim, the filleting, and the fun, and at the same time, takes no prisoners in a gentle way rather than an aggressive approach.

We shall see. From my perspective though it will be someone else. Sigh.

The iron questions asked by the velvet voice.

Now we have Paul "someone else will pay for everything for you" Murphy arguing with Sarah "Denis O'Brien's pet Journalist" Carey. How did we reach a point in Irish media where the center voice get drowned out by empty vessels like these?

The majority of commentators in Ireland 'are' the center.

Look at what is going on right and left of us to see what true wingnuts are like.

I thought I would hate her on this but she is doing okay. I would have no problem with her having the job full time if she keeps going as she has in her first few weeks.

At at least with the interviews with Mary Lou, she wont be able to use the mansplaining card, she might actually answer a few f**king questions for once. Though I better not say anything against Mary Lou, she could have been a volunteer you know.

I heard the tail end of the interview with Mary Lou today - is it worth finding the whole interview?

I was watching on RTE News Now - it was interesting watching Sarah's body language during the last few questions as to whether ML would have taken up arms back in the day!

    My opinion on today's show:

Mary Lou poor on all economic topics. Spend, spend spend with not a thought for where the money comes from. If SF really wanted to be in government they'd still be trying to get a majority. Who outside of FF and FG said they wouldn't deal with them? Could easily try get a majority, that attempt just after the general election was just a show.

I found the IRA questions a bit childish. "would you have taken up arms?". I just found the questioning stupid and made Sarah look bad rather than Mary. It's very easy to say you would or wouldn't if didn't have to live through it.

Eoin McGee came out and (correctly) said the covid payment was unfair in certain situations. His example was say two students working one shift each a week earming €80 a week. One works in fashion retail and is now getting €350 to not work at all. The other works in a supermarket and continues to work her one shift and is still on €80 a week. Totally unfair system. Sarah didn't question him at all. Pat McDonagh basically made same point yesterday and Sarah went to town on him saying maybe you should pay higher wages, totally missing the point of the discussion!

Who the hell votes for Paul Murphy? Can't stand the guy. Was basically saying instead of decreasing covid payment we should increase all state benifits up to that level.

I could never imagine a Rathgar born ,privately educated ‘gal’ like ML drilling on the side of a windswept mountain.

I think it was fair enough, given the context. A lot of the time, the presenters try to score cheap points by asking the Shinners something like "Did you support bombing the IRA bombing campaign" or "Do you believe that Gerry was in the RA", without the particular Shinner having explicitly mentioned it previously. However Mary Lou explicitly said that there was "every chance" that she would have taken up arms, because she knew it would play well to her audience.

And I found it incredible that she was so poorly prepared to address the question when it was asked. It was funny listening to her squirm though.

I'm not in the least offended. Just completely gobsmacked at such incredible geographical ignorance!

    Can't stand him either.

But I will give him some credit for not taking the bait when Sarah rather stupidly tried to ramp up the "scandal" of Leo socialising with his mates in the Park last weekend. She tried her hardest, but none of the panel gave her any backing.

Clare Daly on now looking for the US Ambassador to be kicked out of Ireland. Why oh why is she even being given air time with such crackpot ideas.

And speaking of crackpots, Dr Ebun Joseph is on with Clare Daly. She's woken up every morning crying for the past 8 days

She should go to America. She's needed over there. We're not in the hapenny place compared to America.

What difference does that make apart from exposing your thinly veiled racism? She was awarded a PhD by UCD.

No racism at all my friend. But go on, tell me what was the course?

This is tripe. No balance. The good doctor making all sorts of allegations without being challenged. And now we have a idiot trying to justify mass gatherings.

Racism is a pandemic (including here in Ireland) according to the lad on now so the march going ahead last week and next Saturday is ok with him. Sara lets him off with that.

Clare Daly supports that viewpoint...these protests cannot and shouldn't be stopped. I hope her voters are listening

Why don't you tell me why that matters? She has a PhD. She is entitled to use the title Dr. Yet you call her "self appointed".

As for racism? If it quacks like a duck ...

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,185 ✭✭✭emo72

In fairness listening to these 2 make Ireland sound like a right ****e hole. We should nuke the country from orbit.

Why anyone comes to live in this country is beyond me.

I'd say the same about any white, green, pink, orange etc person who creates a course and then gets a PhD in it. But you stick to your cosy little story about the great 'PhD' and insult anyone who questions it. Over and out

Racism is very prevalent in Ireland. You just need to ask any PoC how often they experience casual racism.

As for the protest - I do agree it's nuts during the pandemic. Clare Daly is a loon - this isn't the only issue I have with her.

    I'm sorry if you're offended.

Universities award PhDs for extended work on a topic. It's not a course. Educate yourself and maybe you'll become more tolerant.
