With the end of the womens world series I just thought I'd have a look at the stats pagea on the HSBC sevens website.

Eve Higgins(5), Lucy Mulhall(7) and Amee Leigh Murphy Crowe(9) are in the DHL impact player table top 10.

Amee Leigh Murphy Crowe is the player on the top 10 impact player table with the least amount of games with 32 matches. All other players in the top 10 have 40 or more matches with 42 matches being the total (6 games per world series event and 7 events).

We scored 107 tries (7th in the league) and scored 64 conversions 59.8%.

Our top try scorers are Amee Leigh Murphy Crowe with 30, Beibhin Parsons with 23, Eve Higgins with 19 and Lucy Mulhall with 11. The remaining 24 tries were spread among 7 scorers.

Lucy Mulhall is the only goal kicker to score for Ireland. I'm not sure if this means she has kicked every kick or if others just failed to score.

Lucy Mulhall is Ireland's top tackler with 92. Eve Higgins and Amee Leigh Murhpy Crowe are second and third with 67 and 64 respectively.

Across the seven world series events we played 42 games and used 16 players. 3 players played all 42 games (Parsons, Higgins and Mulhall).

11 players played more than 28 games and 5 played 17 or less. Given that in a usual event theres a 12 man squad I guess the 11 who have played 28 or more games are the first teamers with 1 spot available based on who can push their way into the squad.

In every world series event at least 10 of core 11 players were named in the squad.

In terms of age the core 11 player squad ranges from 19 year old Erin King to 29 year old Lucy Mulhall. Stacey Flood (26) and Amee Leigh Murphy Crowe (28) are the next oldest players after Mulhall.

Of the 5 players with less than 17 games this season, 1 was making their sevens debut while 3 were veterans with 50 or more caps.

Canada won relegation playoff so Uruguay and Kenya relegated off the series along with Japan as the series is now down to 12 core teams not 15 any more

Men lost cup quarter to Argentina 28-14 before beating GB 19-12 and losing to France 21-19 to finish 6th

    Good news.

I had heard about these world rfl guys organising new york sevens but I had thought they were trying to set up a club event.

Does anyone know if 2024 (3 events 4 million prize fund) and 2025 (7 events 12 million prize fund) will be aimed at internationals or clubs? This could fill a hole in the sevens schedule from what I beleive is a fall in the number of legs in the world series.

Dont know yet but theyve big plans as you mention for expansion and hope to go further. they want private investment into teams to create a series so we could see international sides and then private funded sides as well

France Ireland and Great Britain in the same pool? Not sure how the seeding for that was determined but a bad group stage could see Ireland's mens olympic qualification hopes crippled.

The women can probably choose to treat this as a development event.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,737 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

The qualification is based off the european games in Poland at the end of the month not these 2 rounds of european competition and we are seeded for that tournament alongside GB and Spain so this is good prep for that. France arent competing in the european games either.

Seeding based off last years results and both Ireland and GB were promoted from the European trophy (we skipped 2020) so we’re lowest seeds

Final against Georgia at 7:45 this evening

Andrew Smith got a yellow card early. Georgia picking up a try during the sin bin.

    What channel is it on?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 14,599 Mod ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

    I'm watching it here

Ireland just going 7-5 up (ok i'm assuming the 7 but it should be an easy conversion).

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 14,599 Mod ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

    Game finished 19-10

I felt the last Georgian try was a little soft but it was scored after the last play.

I think the Irish sevens squad can be happy with their performance in the tournament. They beat Great Britain twice, France, Georgia, Portugal and Belgium.

Great to see Terry Kennedy integrating back into the squad.

    european games squad named

    Jordan Conroy (Buccaneers RFC)

    Niall Comerford (UCD RFC/Leinster)

    Billy Dardis (Terenure College RFC)

    Jack Kelly (Dublin University FC)

Terry Kennedy (St Mary’s College RFC)

    Liam McNamara (IQ Rugby)

    Harry McNulty (UCD RFC)

    Bryan Mollen (Lansdowne FC)

    Gavin Mullin (UCD RFC)

    Dylan O’Grady (UCD RFC)

    Mark Roche (Lansdowne FC)

    Andrew Smith (Clontarf FC/Leinster)

    Zac Ward (Ballynahinch RFC).

  • Interesting to see Smith and McNamara still included - with Hansen a virtual cert for the RWC, and presumably Cordero in Argentina's squad, Connacht's only other back three players are Kilgallen, Porch, McNulty and O'Halloran (unless they play Bolton or Ralston out there). Had assumed both would focus on 15 a side after the switch to Connacht.
