Repainting kitchen

    Hi folks,

     

    Looking for some opinion on repainting of a kitchen & living room area. The kitchen is about 10 years old, units are I think possibly pine with a walnut finish on them. They are in good shape just need brightening. Doors and skirting also we want to go from the wood colour to an off-white. I had considered doing myself as I'm not allergic to hard work and have painted the exterior and lots of interior walls, but am reluctant as I feel the kitchen is a bit specialist. Plus I have to look at it every day! Not to mention the wife! So I am looking for opinion on a few things:

     

    Paints, a few people have recommended Colourtrend, however one friend swears by Fleetwood which looks much cheaper. I'm always wary when something is much cheaper due to the old adage you get what you pay for…?  My Fleetwood friend reckons if you need to touch up a wall that with a Colourtrend it doesn't blend in whereas FW does? I'd have to repaint a whole wall with CT?!

    When it comes to the kitchen units, hand painted Vs spray painted? This is a biggie I imagine or is it? Is there much in the difference of the finished product?

    Finally anyone recommend a good painter about Mayo/Sligo/Leitrim?

    There is a vast difference between a brush finish and a professional spray finish. Also a big difference in cost ( if you want it done to the best possible finish). Your friend is half right. Fleetwood paints are superb as are Colortrend. Nothing between them but 40% difference in price. Any wall after a period of time, that you touch up, will show up as slightly different, no matter what the paint. The best way to minimise this , is use the same nap roller/brush that you used originally. If you want to see photos of kitchens etc, this guy ( me) recently won an award for the respraying of his own kitchen https://www.facebook.com/TheHousedok

    Thanks for the reply that's great. We've a leaning towards spray finish so seems that's the way to go. I'm interested in the Fleetwood thing and the price difference, seems like a no brainer to go that way if its as good but much cheaper! Usually a price difference like that means you are sacrificing something! Thanks.

    I can highly recommedn Damian Melody of melody Decor in Castlebar. He is a spraying instructor and the dog's danglies when it comes to kitchens.

    For as long as you get a professional painter, you shouldn't worry about the finish - whether it was painted using a sprayer or brush. But if you are doing it on your own - it's a different story.
