Great spot. I've never seen it around.

Your tastes are bit more discerning these days.
    Beautiful. MK2 though, no?

    Yeah Mk2.

    Wheels are horrible though.

Sticker on the window is From Hendersons . They were main Ford dealer in Sligo and EI is original Sligo reg.

That Fiesta has been for sale a while now and belongs in the dreamers thread AT €8,500.

Far too overpriced. Cleaner, nicer Zetec swapped Fiestas are available in the UK much cheaper, and only €200 to VRT. I actually saw a lovely one with a Type R VTEC swap for less.

    Fiesta is MAD money alright.
Wheels are shocking and I could live without the fat exhaust but that's a personal thing. To each their own. Great to see one on the road.

A new one parked across from me last night in the underground. Whatever could it be? :P
    504821.jpeg

So it turns out it's not a Catherham at all!

had a gander at the reg tonight and it comes up on Cartell as a Robinhood EXMO. Never heard about them as kits!

    Registration: 88D43745
    Make:ROBINHOOD
    Model: EXMO
    Engine Capacity 1993

A 1985 one was for sale on CandC:

    And then this appeared today:
    504824.jpeg

    Good JESUS. It was spotless.

Had a closer look at this today. Original UK reg on insurance disc (G294TAG), so 1989 it is.

Interesting, according to the Gov.uk site
    G294TAG
    ALFA ROMEO SPIDER
    Colour Red
    Fuel type Petrol
    Date registered 31 December 1990
I wonder what his VRT & Nox worked out at.

I didn't even bother heading to the GOV website, just saw G was 1989 (generally) and went with it. :)

Interesting detail alright there re import. How did it get onto a ZV if less than 30 years old I wonder? Tax disc shows as €56.:O

Vehicle enquiry site gives other detail too:

I find the .gov site has a bug that lists many cars as registered as 31 December 1990, when talking about 1990 cars. Once G294TAG is not a private plate, then it's not a December car as G reg ran only as far as July 1990. It couldn't be December because it would have to be H reg if it was. So it could be a Jan to March 1990 car. Would explain the ZV and the €56 tax. Although The January 1998 bit is odd.

I Although The January 1998 bit is odd.

Imported into the UK from somewhere else that year, South Africa most likely.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,211 ✭✭✭JabbaTheHut

Yeah. Was thinking later on that that could be the case. That it was not born in the UK first day.

I spent an entire summer replacing rear chassis mounts on them as a Nissan recall. I don't know how any survived as they were all scrapped soon after as per Nissans' instructions.

Fantastic to see one still alive.

That brings back memories, learned to drive in one of those, just like that 4 door and in red. Was the only car my dad ever bought brand new. Still have the brochure and purchase docket somewhere. 494 FZL was the reg, 1981. Was around £4,000 I think.

It got to around 1988 before it was scrapped, completely rotten underneath and taken off the road by Nissan for safety. Think they offered us £250 or so, and we had to fight them to get more off them for it. Replaced it with a solid '78 Escort MkII!!!!

To see one of those still on the road is some feat, more than cars a lot older to be honest. They just rusted to bits from day one. Imagine a 7 year old, one-owner, well looked after car being scrapped...

Fat exhaust on the tail of a 1 litre car is shocking

“G” Reg went from the 1st of August 1989 until 31st of July 1990. As mentioned because the car was imported to the U.K. sometimes they can go on an earlier plate as they might not of been able to verify the exact date of first registration and the dvla then assume the earlier/older number plate.

It has had an engine swap to a modern Zetec unit, most likely a 2 Litre.

Exhaust still looks ridiculous though IMO.

Great spot. The owner (or a previous owner, about 2 or 3 years ago now) bought a few bits for it from a neighbour of mine who was breaking an early Mk2.

Saw that in Naas a few times. Original condition but sounds and looks its age
