I came across an old post of my own from last year in which someone said that the mothers maiden name is on the indexes pre 1927 in the GRO Dublin, can anyone confirm this for me??

It's a while since I used the actual Index books - but around 1904 sounds right as the starting date for mother's maiden name on births.

I dont think the index books originally contained the details, but it was added at some point by GRO staff, for revised books.

Edit : Claire Santry's page on Irish Civil Registration & GRO mentions a start date of 1903. (see : link)

    :)

given that it's such a 'Cork' surname, I think you could find a few O'Sullivan/O'Sullivan couples to keep you busy...

    good luck with your search!

Well the only thing is that it's an O Sullivan who married an O Sullivan and I know the childrens names, if it at least narrows it down a little bit for me it might get me my grandfathers birth cert at the least!!!
