would it be easier to get in if we were paying for VIP/Bottle service since u normally get either escorted in or through a separate door?

No. You will still get checked at the door and if not (highly unlikely), your server will ask.

I was 34 and was asked for ID in Vegas while ordering a bottle of wine with dinner with my husband, Mam and Aunt. They would only accept passport.

Been to Nevada and Cali. Even in bars or clubs where the bouncer would recognise me and greet me by name he'd still have to ID me.

i know they'll check me but its whether or not anyone knows a way id have a better chance (nobody say wait till your 21)

Look OP, you're not going to get the answer you want here. They're strict, end of tbh. It's highly unlikely you'll get anywhere going by the responses so far.

Also to say if your friends buy you drinks on the casino floor and they discover you are U-21, that friend will be taking a trip to Clark County too.

You have been repeatedly told what the story is and no amount of changing the way you ask will change the answer to what you want to hear - you will be asked for ID and they take it very seriously in the States. I was asked for ID the last time I was there, I was 45 at the time.

Just another one one the not a hope list.

I got ID'd at every single casino/bar/club in vegas. Even when just standing watching a blackjack game.

They are required to check your ID whatever age you are, it doesnt matter what you look like. (I have grey hair and I have to produce ID). They are liable to fines or even losing their license if they don't ask for ID.

So many casinos are now also hotels that "Kids" are allowed in the gambling areas as long as they're moving through. They arent supposed to be lingering around the gambling.

Also the hotel security are very efficient usually, hell in the old days they were all mafia.

He shouldn't overlook this too, your friends won't be happy if you put them in jail either OP.

Lots of places have a blanket carding policy, meaning they card everyone. You could be over ninety and still be carded. It's becoming more and more common and my father - over sixty - was recently carded buying wine in a supermarket.

OP the US is a ****ed up country. My father and grandfather who are bald, fat and over 50 and 80 got IDed in Vegas fairly often. They know the dates are reversed here.

I am 40 and was asked for ID to enter pubs. No point trying to fool the doorman.
They have laws to abide by, you should just accept the laws of the land.

To echo most people's posts I was there last year and am over 30. Asked for ID at every table and club. Only place I wasn't asked for ID was having a drink with a meal

OP, I've been to the US about 20 times over the past 20 years and I still get ID'ed in many bars I go to in every state I've been to (I'm bald, 40 and look it!!)- if there is a bouncer at the door, then by default, they ID everyone unless you look like you're an OAP. My 50 year old cousin was at dinner with me in Chicago once and she was ID'ed when she asked for a glass of wine with her meal in The Olive Garden - an Italian restaurant chain that would be the last place you'd expect underage drink chancers - yes, America is that unbelievably strict!!

In Vegas, it's even more policed as you have the combined drinking and gambling laws. If you can't access a casino or bar in Vegas, you might as well be going on a skiing trip to the Canary Islands. Sorry if you've already booked it but it was a bad call - you should have waited til next year!

Same. I was also carded while waiting for a table at the Grand Wok in the MGM.

    God I miss Vegas.

Strangely never got asked for Id in my early twenties in America

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,432 ✭✭✭willmunny1990

I Have a mixed experience with America, im 26 now and I was in Vegas/San Francisco in 2015 - New York 2016.

I wasn't in any night clubs just regular bars and overall I was only asked for ID twice during both trips, one time In Vegas in a casino bar, the other in San Francisco, I wasn't asked at all in New York.

It sucks that you're going at 20, listen obviously the lure was hard to resist when the offer of going to Vegas came up so I can sympathize with you, but going on a trip to the States that young with the crowd you mentioned was a disastrous move.

The yanks don't do the Irish way of doing things " go ahead there and it'll be grand " it's black and white with rules over there you really don't want to get arrested over there.

Ooh and If you are flying with an American air line you will need to be 21 to :)

You may go knacker drinking in the desert sure at least you won't loose money gambling 😎
