Do you tip in the bookies?

Just wondering do people on here tip in the bookies? I work part time in one and will always go out of my way to get punters a back price(within reason), make them aware if they have winning docket they may not know about(cash back etc) make them aware of enhanced prices on bets they do etc etc. If these people hit big on an accum they rarely if ever give a tip, had a fella recently who had 700 of a horse he didn't know about(result got reversed). Had to ring up head office and all to get it cleared and didn't even leave a 5er for a pint! Anyway I always leave a tip if I hit an accum or something, it's good to keep onside of the cashiers I find.

I can't bare people expecting tips. How much do these cashiers give punters back if their bets lose?

One place I'd never even think about tipping

    Of course I tip bookies.

I also tip insurance salesmen, bank managers and chuggers on Grafton St. for being really really helpful.

I've never heard of tipping a bookie? I definitely wouldn't consider it.

Would you consider tipping a shop assistant? I would consider it the same thing? They may sometimes point out special offers etc in supermarket.

You're tipping the cashier not the bookie.

I would tip usually barring only getting back what I lost. I've worked in a bookies and it's not an easy job, so I like to let the people working there that they're appreciated.

I gave someone back 700 a few weeks ago he didn't even know about, was under no obligation to do so, numerous other times on greyhounds, horses, virtual cash backs etc etc.

Exactly, also goes along way if you ever have an issue with a docket/price etc etc.

If he's not capable of knowing he he was due 700 he shouldn't be in there in the first place

It was his money. If he lost 700 how much would you give back.

Hate this attitude it's not like I'm getting the 700 when he loses am I ?

do you tip cashiers in shops/supermarkets. The cashier is being paid to do his job.

It's not part of my job to inform customers of winning dockets they are unaware of, in fact it could get me in a world of ****. Don't tip in supermarkets no but generally would in most places. I guess some people just have a different mentality when it comes to this thing.

When I worked in a bookies we were NOT allowed to take tips

Not quite the same thing, I mean there's no potential to walk away from a supermarket with a tidy profit. :)

Plus as someone said I think it pays to be nice with cashiers as if you ever do end up having an issue they'll know you're not trying to chance your arm.

Is tipping a bookie a thing? It's something I'd never even think of doing ...

There's no potential to walk away from a supermarket with a heavy loss

If you lose you lose, the cashiers have no role in that.

They have no role in you backing a winner either, but having good cashiers can enhance the experience (as opposed to someone who looks at every customer with a death stare), whereas bad cashiers can create a toxic betting experience (by letting muppet punters rule the roost, not being helpful etc...).

I see no harm in rewarding the former whenever I get a healthy winner. That's just me, I wouldn't judge anyone for not tipping because as you suggested, we back plenty of losers.

I never get the anger about tipping. If someone provides a great service, tipping them is a good thing. it helps everyone in the long run

Likewise, I don't get the entitlement some feel about receiving tips.

Decent cashiers very few and far between nowadays....especially in the Ladbrokes dominated south east!!

I agree, I have never thought about it or even heard of anybody doing it. I would often ( when i'm winning of course) tip the dealer when in a casino.
