Every time there is a warning these threads turn into a Met Eireann bashing fest. Can we please just give it a rest and discuss what we all are here for which is the WEATHER.

How do people get so confused about warnings.

It's pretty straightforward. Seriously, a pretty savvy 3 year old would grasp the concept.

Where is "here"? What sort of panels? Solar, general roofing, etc? What size were the panels? Did you lose them, in the sense that they've blown away and are nowhere to be found out are they lost because they were damaged due to striking an object? Were the panels ripped from their fixing or from someone's hands whilst someone was trying to install them?

A bit more info would be nice if posting here so that we can get an indication as to what the wind strength is in any given location.

Apologies, was in a hurry! Perspex panels from a roof in Citywest..

    warnings are ignored regardless

    hurricane ophelia,3 fatalities.

One of those fatalities will,in due course, help define employment law for red weather warnings.

This is the 'Icon' hourly pressure forecast for the next 12 hrs (starting point 6pm this eve)

    ETOtbC9.png

Note that even though pressure is slowly rising over the southern two-thirds of the country, pressure falls over the northern third, which thus creates a tighter 'squeeze' in the isobaric gradient for a time later this evening and tonight, which will result in the forecast increased gustiness that will affect primarily the northern half of Connacht, northern half of Leinster and pretty much all of Ulster as this evening wears on. Should start to ease up towards morning as the gradient slackens once again.

Looking at a few of the weather models, the Isle of Man* and parts of NW England could be in line for some severe gusts in the early hours tomorrow. I wonder if the UK will issue a red warning for the NW of England???

*The Isle of Man is not a part of the UK so won't get any warnings issued by the UK met office.

Oh look, a thread where you can talk about Met Eireanns forecasting ability right here:

    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057951190

And oh look! Another where you can talk about the warning system! Now please leave this thread with the crappy talk and get back to the storm and not discuss how the warning system isn't fit for purpose.

Same here. Very ominous, thundery hues just before showers arrive, which turn out to be nothing more than very brief hail showers. Could be something to do with the relatively drier airmass that is currently moving in from the Atlantic.

The wraparound occlusion which is connected with the expected increases in wind (especially gusts) later this evening and into the early hours is clearly seen approaching the west and northwest in the latest satellite loop.

Record of pressure and gusts so far. A bit under the wind speeds that were predicted. Thought myself it would be a bit higher in the W /NW .
