What about something like 'How many days in June will record a daily temperature of 20+ degrees?

It will keep us occupied for the month and obviously after a crap May I'm hoping the answer will be 30 days!

or 21.2c since we've been following that number closely recently :P

How many days in June will be dry at all stations?

  • Registered Users Posts: 188 ✭✭sunflower3

Suggestion....for the 21st June what will be the maximum hours of sunshine observed at Malin head...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,475 ✭✭✭Jpmarn

June 7th is a key date on easing lockdown restrictions here in Ireland. Pubs and restaurants are allowed to open to outside tables only with a Max of 6 adults per table. You could pick on Max temperature, Sunshine or even rainfall quantities on this day.

Good job we didn't pick that one for May!

Okay thanks for suggestions, will take one of them or something based thereupon. We just eased our own regime in British Columbia (for the third time, I think it is now) today so naturally it was the worst day in ages (wind and rain).

Based on this years weather we could have "How many air frosts will there be in June?" (Dont even know if Im jokin)

New Max of 19.6 at Newport yesterday, which won't last long with highest max expected on Sunday.

The 21.2°C barrier is under threat to be broken before the end of May. Probably today but more likely tomorrow Sunday.

    After four weeks ...

IMT has made it to 9.2 C (9.16 rounded up) and will finish on 9.5 give or take 0.1. The fourth week average was 9.7 which is 2.4 below normal.

MAX still sits at 19.2, but could edge up after today's final report, more likely tomorrow or Monday.

MIN was -4.0 and has been scored.

PRC ... good news for y'all ... it has passed the point of no return, no half-boost possible as my 150% has fallen below the thresh-hold raw score, we have enough PRC now to guarantee 165% even if today, 30th and 31st add nothing (and they likely will or won't, with very minor exceptions). The ongoing tracking shows this past week at 153% which places the PRC at 185% of normal through 28 days. A dry end to the month reduces that to the guaranteed 165%. So you can estimate your score in PRC by looking at your rank, will be doubling up the scores a few times going down from 15 to 1, in places where forecasts are clumped together.

SUN ... finally something that we actually have scores to calculate (well the IMT also) ... SUN edged up to 104% with the fourth week average 111% from 666 hours at the six locations. There's a sun-cloud mix for the grid these last three days which will likely not change this very much in either direction, so figure on perhaps a 105% outcome.

BONUS ... This is now settled too, regardless of what happens with the timing; the only detail to be determined is whether Danno gets one or two superbonus points, if today or Monday break 21.2 first then it's one, if tomorrow then it's two superbonus points. Scoring was otherwise laid out for the bonus a few days back.

Could probably give you a very close estimate of final scoring already, but will hold off until the first of June to have an accurate IMT and MAX.

New Max 20.3 yesterday at Mt Dillion.

We expect it to be beaten today but it reach 21.2?

    That's the one to watch!

I'd say it will smash past 21.2c
    It's 19c at 11am in many places

Many stations are reporting 22C. A few places in Donegal may be at 23C as it's 23C currently in Derry.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,319 ✭✭✭✭M.T. Cranium

Well done Danno, two points superbonus likely confirmed from eventual reports.

Will soften the blow on that IMT hit.

Our lowest IMT forecast was 9.8 and at this rate, we may almost get there (from the 9.2 after 28 days), now at 9.30 (from 9.16) after 29 days, averages of 15 on 30th and 31st would change that to 9.7. Anyway it won't affect the scoring whatever happens as our differentials from the top score will all remain the same and there's little chance of it getting past 9.8.

Shannon got to 22.6c but think Pheonix Park and Newport were higher.

This is pretty late but IMT had reached 9.5 C after 30 days (9.46), don't think it quite made it to the max on 31st, but will have a full report for you later "today" and provisional scoring.

Sunny and 34 C in the valley near here on Monday, quite hot in the sun. Probably about 28 C up where I live but I wasn't there most of the day.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,319 ✭✭✭✭M.T. Cranium

    IMT finished on 9.6 C.

    MAX 23.1, MIN -4.0

    PRC 170%

    SUN est 110%

    Bonus 30th

Will try to get to the provisional scoring later today, may be more like overnight.

The scoring for May has been confirmed with SUN right on the estimate of 110%. The average for the six stations was 207 hours, normal was 189, so within the margins of rounding this is good. And everything else we already had tracked was confirmed too. So it's on to the annual scoring update, plus congrats to Pauldry (first) and appledrop, Gonzo (tied second) for leading the way in the battle to defeat Con Sensus. Honorable mentions to Cirrus Business and Adam240610 (tied fourth), sunflower3 and Danno who also scored well.

Annual scoring update January to May 2021

The ranks before the forecaster's name refer to total (all five where applicable) scores and the second entry in brackets is the previous month's rank for that. ... The rank after "best 4/5" is for that category and the second entry in brackets there is also last month's rank for best 3/4.
